Incorporating Where You Met

So my fiance and I met through our jobs working at a local pet store, and I really want to find a way to tie that into our reception. He's not loving the idea of animals on his groom's cake, and I already got shot down on having goldfish centerpieces Any ideas or ways you've seen it done? TIA!

You know sometimes you can't always get what you want.  You have been shot down by your FI on animals on a cake and goldfish( glad you listened to that one).    Maybe it's a sign you should be going in a different direction.

Could you use animal names or pictures instead of table numbers? You could also use paw prints and bird footprints (subtly) on things like the escort cards.

I went to a wedding where the tables were names of dog breeds. I was at the Rottweiler table. It was a cute way to incorporate the couple's love of dogs. The only problem was that with no numbers, I had to wander a little bit to find it.

It sounds like this is something your FI isn't into so I wouldn't do it.

This is what I'm thinking. He's vetoed your ideas and apparently hasn't offered any ways he'd like to include animals, so I'd say he just doesn't care to do so and you should drop the idea entirely.

Have you guys had your engagement pictures yet? Since he doesn't seem enthused about incorporating animals at the reception, why not instead do related e-pics?

A friend of mine met his now-wife at a retail store and had some of their photos in fun poses in the store. Super cute.

I agree with others - if he doesn't seem that into it, I wouldn't push it.  Is working at this pet store the one great passion in both of your lives, or is it just a job you may happen to also like, but is primarily for paying bills.  If it's the latter for either one of you, then I would think it's weird to incorporate the means of paying rent and car loans into the wedding.

You don't have to incorporate where you met (and you certainly shouldn't incorporate live animals as props - good on your fiancé for vetoing that one).  My friend certainly didn't incorporate a drunken frat party into her wedding (she met her fiancé when she woke up and discovered him passed out on the floor in front of the couch where she passed out).

Me and my husband met on a blind date, at the Mall, in front of McDonald's! We could have served Big Macs at the reception.

If you fiance isn't interested, I would drop the idea.  Just enjoy your guests.

I like the animal cookie idea or cake topper idea and blending it into your e-shoot is a good idea too. It sounds like anything over that might be too eccentric for your FI.

Maybe you can incorporate it into other aspects of the wedding events.  My FI and I met at a locally owned ice cream/sandwich shop where we both worked. My sister is going with a whole vintage ice cream parlor theme for my bridal shower and is going to have an ice cream bar/buffet. We are also likely going to have our rehearsal dinner at the pizza place in the same shopping center as the ice cream shop (it's two doors down.)  That way we can go get ice cream with anyone who wants to attend afterwards and actually show our out of town family where we met.  I don't think you should give up on the idea just yet.  Some guys just aren't as in to the entire planning process or don't see the vision or romanticism that you feel.
