Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

Thank you cards for money

I will be writing my thank you cards within the next few days for my wedding. Most of the gifts we recieved were cash/checks. When I write thank you cards do I need to say what we will be using the money on. We used i to pay for some of the cost of the wedding.

Thanks

Re: Thank you cards for money

  • No don't tell people they paid for the wedding.  Tell them thank you for your generous gift and that it will help us start our life together.
  • We only received checks and, like PP suggested, thanked people for their generous gift. We are saving for a house, so we did say that we were using it for the "house fund".

  • We are using most of our money towards updating our home.  So we will be writing something along the lines of "thank you for your gift of money, we will be using it for (insert item here) for our home".

  • You definitely do not HAVE to tell them what you spent it on.  Just say how it was thoughtful and generous and you enjoyed them celebrating your wedding with you.
  • I told most everyone that sent cash or checks that it was going towards our honeymoon, for fun money.

    I did the same thing
  • My FIL wanted to know what we were spending the money on, and my husband told him that we're putting it in savings.  That made FIL sad, as he wanted us to have fun with it, so he offered us more money for the honeymoon.

After that, I told my DH to tell people we were saving for a new car, and to have a bit of fun on the honeymoon.

Both of those things are true, but with our own money - the real truth is all the money from the wedding is going into our savings account so we can start saving towards the 'baby fund' - my DH has told me that we can start trying once we have $X amount of money in there!  Right now, the wedding gifts put us to nearly half that amount - woot woot!  That makes me happier than any dinner out during our honeymoon, but to our guests, they wanted to know we were using it for something more tangible.

<div>I wrote things like "Thank you for the check/cash, it was very generous of you. We had a great time dancing with you at the reception" Blah blah! It's really up to you... we put the majority of our money into savings so we didn't have much to say about it.</div>
