Wedding Invitations & Paper

When do I send out my invites?

I don't have any guests coming from out of state so when is the appropriate time to send out my invites? I want to make sure I give enough time for people to respond so I can get my final count in on time to the venue.

Re: When do I send out my invites?

  • 8 weeks before your wedding date.
  • I would mail them out 8 weeks before the wedding, and set the RSVP deadline no sooner than 4 weeks before the wedding.

  • No matter if you had out of town guests are not, invites are sent out anywhere from 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding date.

When is your final headcount due to your venue?  Whatever that date is add 5-7 days and that should be your RSVP date.

  • I have always been told that invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks prior to your RSVP date, which should be 2 weeks before you want your final count. For instance, I am getting married June 20, so my invitations should be sent out by April 18 with an RSVP date of May 30, because I am turning in my final count on June 13 (a week before the wedding). Hope that makes sense!

Nope - it's 6-8 weeks before the wedding date itself.

Then the RSVP date should be no more than a week before you need a final headcount. Reasonable caterers don't need a final headcount until 1-2 weeks before the wedding. So usually the RSVP date is 2-3 weeks prior to the event. It shouldn't be any more than 4 weeks before the event.

  • I'm just going by what my venue gave me. They want my final count a week before the wedding. With the RSVP date being 2 weeks prior to that, it gives me ample time to contact anyone who may not have sent their RSVP. I would hate to pay for dinners that no one will eat! By all means, do what you feel is best for your situation. @southernbelle0915 is probably correct with her reply, but I'm a big worrier, so I'm all for giving myself plenty of time to get everything worked out before my big day!

Why do you need 2 full weeks to contact the hand full of people who forget to RSVP? It takes 2-3 days max.

Seriously.  Phone calls do not take that long.  You call the person and say "hey just wondering if you are coming or not?"  And if you leave a voice mail you say "Hey just wondering if you are coming or not?  Could you let me know by X day.  If I don't hear from you by then I will have to mark you down as a decline.  Thanks!"

  • okay girls, it's my day.. I'll do it how I want. I was just giving a suggestion to another poster. no need to bash the way I'm planning MY day!

Have you ever seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Do you remember a little girl named Veruca Salt?

    So are you marrying yourself?

  • We're mailing ours out the first week of March (8 weeks before) and asking for RSVPs by March 23rd. This will give me a week to call anyone who hasn't done their RSVP. Due to my busy schedule I want several days to follow up. My venue needs to know 2-3 weeks before the date, and my caterer needs to know a week before. Our wedding is May 1st.
