Wedding Woes

Rants and Raves

1. This job. I swear it is going to give me a stroke. I keep wondering if I really need to job search or if it is just going to be like this at another company. A project I'm working on has fallen apart and they are going to take me partially off it, which frees up more time but they want to give me another project. So that's a total of 5 projects I'm supposed to be managing. I told my director weeks ago I did not want that.

2. The face wash I love has been "reformulated" by the company. Except that it hasn't because the ingredient list is the same. The only thing that changed is the name and bottle. But they did jack up the price by $4. I love this stuff too much to give it up though because it is the only product that doesn't dry my skin out terribly. On the flip side, I went to Sephora to buy a replacement and they had a bottle of the "old" version and it rang up under the old price.

3. I am internally freaking out about my sister's bachelorette party. It's in a month in Vegas. We are going with her two best friends. 31 yo me with three 26 yo girls who are not married. I have no idea what to wear. I told my sister I need her to Facetime with me while I go shopping. Once upon a time, I would have been fine. Working from home has stripped me of personal style. I can either dress business appropriate or jeans and a t-shirt.

4. DH has been taking the kids to daycare in the morning which has been awesome because I now have a little more time to do small things like put my makeup on or blow dry my hair nicer.

Re: Rants and Raves

  • 1.  This is DH's job struggle as well.  Grass. Green. Other. Side.  Or not...

    2. I hate when that happens. Speaking of Sephora, I need to go and get some more foundation.  I'm a bare minerals fan, but I'm not sure if I want to get the Bare Skin or stick with the compact powder foundation.  I also need to clean out my make-up bag before I buy anything else. Also, I got a bunch of samples of facial cleanser and moisturizers and I love them all...and they're all super expensive.

    3. HA.  I feel you.  I have no style either.  A bachelorette trip to Vegas would be hard for me too.

    4.  I WISH DH was home to take DefConn in the morning...or off in time to pick him up.  But he works 12 hours a day (and goes in at 5am)...so yeah, it's all on me.  At least he was home to take the kids outside last night.

  • Meg, you will be fine. Pack your jeans but pick up two cute tops. Maybe a black dress that you can jazz up with jewelry and cute shoes. Something casual but cute(jeans, knit dress) for during the day, and you should be fine.

  • I freaked about a Friday night with Bunco friends. I can't imagine a weekend in Vegas. Good luck.
  • my sister and i were out in jeans and tee-s or tanks for most of our Vegas trip in October. We bought a few cute dresses and shoes for dinners and shows. We weren't going out to clubs or parties or trying to pick up men - so no slutwear.

Keep in mind that you'll be walking a hell of a lot, unless you're not planning to go anywhere or to find a group of boys to carry you around - so make sure your shoes are comfortable. We were there Thurs-Tuesday, and I walked 50 miles during the trip.
  • I was just perusing modcloth and they have some cute stuff.  I'm looking for a dress to wear to a wedding in April.

This is my entire closet right now.
  • One the Vegas note, my sister is wearing a romper.

I'll make sure to share pictures. :)

Thought you could use a laugh.  I TOTALLY misread the bolded when I first saw your post and for about 10 seconds, before my brain could re-evaluate, I read it that the bachelorette party was a month in Vegas.  As in, a month-long vacation in Vegas.  And I was like, "WHAT?  Who ARE these people that can do that?", lol.

  • God, I'd die if that was the case. I honestly hate Vegas, so going for a month would just put me over the edge.
  • Rant: DH just found out that he's going to have to work 12 hrs/day for 20-25 days straight.  noooooooooooo!
  • Rave: Mann's sugar snap peas mediteranean creations is good!  Olive oil, garlic, basil, parmesan, on top of some snap peas.mmmm

WTELF?! I really don't think I would do that no matter what they were paying me - but I would hope that they're going to provide extra compensation for this? That's insane - it's a really quick way to get people out the door.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Why do they have to work so much for so long?  And when does it start?
  • They are commissioning a new boiler so it's sort of a big deal. The people doing the testing are out of Montreal and don't want to just sit around on the weekends so they're pushing through. It's sort of a once in a career sort of push and kind of a big deal to have on a resume.

It starts Feb 10 and there will be comp time.

  • Yay to comp time and a resume biggie
Boo to 12 hours/7 days and single parenting.

  • I'm glad it's a one time thing.  YAY for comp time too.
  • I'm glad it's a good opportunity for him and they're compensating him - still, ouch.
