Men's Shoes HALP

DH is looking for a pair of casual shoes to wear with jeans that are not tennis shoes ore hiking boots.

Many of us like to shop for shoes right?  Any suggestions?

Boat shoes. I know those have gotten a bad wrap in recent years because they've become super trendy, but I've actually been wearing them since I was a kid (cuz I went boating on Lake Michigan a ton) and I still wear them just cuz of how comfy they are.

I think men's boat shoes can be super hot. I'm also a fan of moccasins. FI has a pair that are just slippers so he only wears them around the house but I think he looks pretty damn cool in them :P

ETA I was at Macy's a few days ago and they had tons of mens shoes like this. If there's not a Macy's near you, check out their website to get some ideas!

  • Good suggestions!  Boat shoes are fitting. . . he does coach crew, lol.

What about snaffle-bit shoes?  Too dressy?

  • My husband definitely has this problem! The man loves his old ratty Nike dunks. He's a mechanic so doesn't have any "work" clothes or dress clothes. The man only own jeans, t shirts, and hoodies. He doesn't have sweaters or button downs or anything like that.

We went to tons of places like Marshall's & Famous Footwear where he tried on tons of casual dress shoes like THIS. He just couldn't get into any of them, he felt too European and trendy. I agreed with him, it's just not my taste either.

So he ended up getting THESE. They are rather expensive ($200-250) but they are really high quality, really comfortable, and look great with jeans. I believe they have a warranty on them too. Maybe not the best suggestions if you're looking to go to a fancy restaurant, but if you're just going to be walking around or going to a friend's house or a movie date or something casual, I think they look great.

These are my DH's casual shoes.  He loves them.   Actually has 2 pairs.

  • FI likes those useless-for-actual-sports-but-sort-of-cute Pumas and that kind of thing- he's got a black leather pair and a brown suede pair.

But he wears a suit and tie to work so he definitely dresses down quite a bit on the weekends.

I know it's kind of hipster, but there are lots of really nice casual leather ankle boots for dudes out there right now too, if that's the kind of thing he's into. I'd be into FI wearing them but he's straight hoodies on the weekends and they don't really work with something THAT casual, mostly.

DH gets them for work because he needs waterproof, steel-toed, electrically isolated, non-slip shoes so he doesn't die (no, seriously, he could get seriously injured or die if something goes wrong and he's got the wrong shoes on - safety first!). He gets a new pair every year since the company pays for the majority of the cost, and has to break them in before bringing them to work. Then he brings home the year-old pair and wears them around. Damn things take him forever to lace/tie!

  • FI wears boots mostly but also loves these. He has a shorter pair, too. Twisted X.

  • FI is a Sperry/boat shoes fan as well.

He also has a pair like these that are kinda like dressed up tennis shoes (click)

Something like these oxfords would be cool (click)
  • SO has Sperry boat shoes.  I think they look nice.  He wanted to start wearing his motorcycle boots again for daily wear but luckily I talked him out of that.  Motorcycle boots =/=professional work shoe attire.

On the rare occasion that H wears a shirt with buttons rather than his standard thermal-and-hoodie uniform with tennis shoes and ISN'T in a suit heading to work, he wears these.

ETA he wears these to work, and for the occasional fancy date night dinner with "nice jeans."

What about something like this? It's technically still a sneaker, but it's not athletic and would look more appropriate in a work setting.
