Fuming right now!

Re: Fuming right now!

  • I'm a nurse in a local hospital so no closings, cancellations, late starts etc.  I worked 3 12s in a row this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The snow started for us on Saturday and Sunday morning we were buried.  Then Sunday night, a bunch of staff called in "sick" so I would up having to stay late.  A 16 hour shift to end my 3 in a row.  Brutal.  So today, I'm being completely lazy.  I feel I earned it!

    That is brutal!

    Oh sure, rub it in!!!!!!!!

At least I'll be in Florida this weekend.
  • I left early yesterday since no one was in but the public transportation here blows. It took me forever to get home. This morning, I had to wait almost 40 minutes for a subway train. It was -9 wind chill and my station is open above ground.

I'm in "Illisconsin" and we got 15 inches of snow. I take the train and I live about 2 blocks from the station but we went to the FILs' house for the Super Bowl and they live kind of in the country- although only about 8 miles from us.

Their driveway is just over a quarter mile long, and gravel so Fiancés dad fired up the tractor with the snow plow and less than 300 yards into the plow session it got a flat. Tired to use the pick-up to pull it out and that got stuck in a ditch. Attempted to dig that out but with blowing snow and drifts already up to our waists that wasn't happening.

We had to wait until the following morning to get a neighbor to pull the vehicles out and plow so we could get our little Ford down the drive.

Make it into town... and get stuck because the roads weren't plowed. And because fiance wasn't thinking- I asked him if he was sure the road he went down was a good option... *sigh*

Some random good Samaritan pulls us out, but not until we'd half dug the snow out from under and around the car and my fiance got frost bite.

Get home... no parking places. Plows have not taken care of the city lots. The city lot is also blocked by a 20 foot pile of snow from the side streets.

Hours later we were finally able to dig out parking spaces in the lot (thank GOD we remembered to bring a shovel from his parents' house...).

    I hate winter.

ETA: It was also snowing again when I left this morning and I heard we could get 2-5 more inches this evening.

  • I honestly don't know how any of you function in day-to-day life in east coast winters. Like, I'm surprised that life doesn't shut down more often than I hear about.

I really don't mind the snow so much. By March/April is gets annoying, and you just want it to be warmer again. The only thing that I hate is when it's super cold and windy. I tend to hibernate when it's like that.

H and I can't function any longer. We've lived here our entire lives and will never get used to it. We've had very serious discussions about moving down south in the next 5 to 6 years, mainly because we're so over the snow and the cold.
  • If someone texts or calls in the middle of the night, it better be a huge emergency. Other than that, only FI is allowed to call, regardless of hour, when he is out of town.

I live in SW Michigan. Lake Effect is the bane of our existence. We got 18.5" of snow Sunday. All city and gov't buildings were closed yesterday. Schools are still closed today because the plows only cleared main roads. FI doesn't work on Mondays so he spent a good hour digging out our cars which were completely buried.
A lot of my friends who actually made it in to work yesterday said most people called in because they were trapped.
