BM Gift Question

I have one BM (my sister actually) that I am having a really hard time picking a gift for.  We are having a DW, so I need to find something that would also be lightweight for her to travel with.  She's also very difficult to shop for in general.  To be honest, she would love a gift card.  She always loves getting gift cards, so I was thinking about getting her one to Brighton or Vera Bradley.  But, is it tacky to give her a gift card?  I know that I should shop for her like I would her Birthday or Christmas and this is what I would giver her for her Birthday or Christmas.  It just seems weird.  What are your thought?

Re: BM Gift Question

  • No, not tacky at all. I think most people would love to receive a gift card as a thank you for being a BM.

  • Other knotties might disagree with me, but I think if you know she likes gift cards, then it's okay. Maybe you could also pair it with a bottle of wine or a cute clutch you know she's had her eye on.

  • levioosa; pair with with something small and cute so it feels more gift-y (if that makes sense lol). Maybe put the card in a cute make-up bag you know she'll use or wrap a pretty bracelet around it. Add something fun :)

  • If she likes gift cards, then one that fits her taste is totally acceptable. You can always write a heartfelt note in a card to make it more personal.

  • Thank you!  I was thinking of pairing it with a small bag, probably a make-up bag.

I think that sounds lovely--personally, I always prefer gift cards as well.  If I was a BM and that's what I was given, there would be no side-eyeing from me at all.

  • I think a gift card is fine if that's what she wants. If you had something in mind that's bigger/bulkier and doesn't travel well, you could always give it to her before you leave.

  • The best BM gift I got was a gift card. DH was also part of the wedding and received one as well. Things were tight money-wise at the time, so it was a big help for us.

  • I know some people consider gift cards impersonal but I for one LOVE them, especially for stores I won't normally shop at because they aren't in my budget. If you know that's something she'd like I say go for it.

We live in different countries, so I won't see her until we are in Hawaii.  I thought about shipping something, but would rather take her to lunch or dinner and give it to her.
