Makeup for Giant Crybabies

I'm a HUGE crier. I cry over cheesy commercials, when I'm the slightest bit upset, when I'm happy, etc so much that I'm considering seeing a doctor to possibly look at medication to keep my emotions in check. And I'm not pregnant, I've always been like this. Plus I just came off a pretty horrendous period so definitely not pregnant.

That being said, I know I'm gonna be a crying mess on the wedding day, and I don't want to ruin my makeup! I'm getting it professionally done by my friend that owns a Merle Norman boutique, but does anyone have any recommendations for makeup that won't run? Particularly mascara and eye liner but I'm open to anything really!

Anything waterproof would do well. Definitely go for waterproof! And an eye primer, and Urban Decay makes an awesome make-up setting spray. 

Some advice on the actual crying, though: 

Fold up (or wad up) a tissue and just press it gently at the corner of your eye. Dab the tears, do not wipe or rub. 

Also, don't try super hard to NOT cry. Then your face looks really strained and weird and you end up ugly-crying. Lol is it weird that I know these things? 

A photographer friend told me some of the most beautiful wedding pictures she's ever gotten have been when the bride and/or groom are not holding back their tears. 

If you have waterproof make up and you make sure to dab instead of rub, you should be good, but I'd also keep an emergency make-up kit on hand just in case. (Stuff to do touch-ups like extra eye-liner, Q-tips to carefully wipe away smeared make-up, under-eye concealer, blush, etc).

If you are open to false eyelashes then I would highly suggest them. Then you don't have to worry about mascara at all!

Honestly, any time I buy a regular drugstore brand (Maybelline or Loreal) waterproof mascara, that stuff just will not come off. You don't have to spend more than $8-$10 for something that will lengthen, thicken, and stay put. Perfect for a wedding.

I'm massively weepy as well (not a wimp, but very easily moved!) and I will say that some waterproof mascaras work better than others (I hesitate to name any names because it seems to change all the time for me; what held up five years ago no longer does). But the biggest issue comes from wiping your eyes, so try to resist that! False eyelashes are a great idea but also very vulnerable to rubbing/wiping.

To stop a cry in its tracks (sometimes...), try pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth/behind your top teeth. It actually works!

Holy cow! I will try this and report back haha. You may have just saved my life.

I will be buying all the waterproof stuff though, JIC!

Yeah, the Urban Decay "All-Nighter" setting spray is miraculous. I once got in the shower with that stuff on (...drunk...) and my eye makeup was totally intact afterwards.

@amelisha I have that and it doesn't work for me I don't know if my skin just isn't compatible or what but my makeup still gets messed up or fades

I wear Blinc mascara.  It doesn't budge until I've warm water on it, and I gently tug it off.  I've NEVER managed to rub any of it off before I was ready to remove it, including wearing it swimming, playing sweaty sports etc.

So I'm a big cryer and I was worried about this. But the experience is so intense that you're kind of a deer in headlights and it mostly kept me from crying. I choked up a little at the end of my vows. DH had tears in his eyes when I walked down the aisle. But the nerves kept things in check, at least for me. I thought I'd be ugly sobbing and unable to even read my vows. 

But anyway yes to fake eyelashes. A swipe of powder under your lower lash line can help keep things from running. Professional really helps, especially if you're using airbrushing and/or a setting spray.

I hadn't heard of the tongue thing, will have to keep that in mind.  I find looking up to help, especially at light, though of course you don't want to be staring up at the sky/ceiling through your whole ceremony.

That would be kind of funny :P 

My friend and I were in really boring training together once and our boss would drone on and on and on. When we got super bored, we would both look up at the ceiling, and then our boss would look up too to see what we were looking at, even though nothing was up there lol. 

It would be funny to see the wedding guests all looking up to see what the bride was looking at. But I'm a jackass like that.

As a fellow crier, I agree with the above, especially about dabbing. Definitely plan ahead with tissues or a handkerchief. I actually borrowed a lovely handkerchird that belonged to H's great grandmother that I carried along with my bouquet and used during the ceremony. One of my favorite pictures from the ceremony is me using it to dab with a big grin on my face (I think during the serman?). Even if you don't have something sentimental, I recommend investing in something pretty, even if it's only a few dollars.

Also, talk to your MUA about your concerns. They should know how to handle it.
