Shoes and accessories help please!!

Hi all!

So I am wearing Maggie Sottero's Brittania in September. It is ivory with a light gold lace ombre. I am HORRIBLE at choosing accessories and shoes (and I'm a perfectionist who can't make decisions easily), so I need some advice.

Do I need to have gold jewelry and/or gold in my color palette so my dress doesn't clash? Or would silver/gray be ok? My fiance is planning on wearing a Vera Wang gray tux with an ivory shirt (is that weird?).

I was also thinking I should wear relatively subtle shoes so they don't detract from the dress, but I don't want them to be too boring. What is a good place to look at shoes? And is a color too much with this dress?

One thing I do know is that I like pearls which I think works with this style.

Just looking for advice from some fashion savvy brides.
Thanks!!

  • I think gold and gray are fine together. I'm wearing gold accessories with an ivory dress, and my FI is wearing a gray suit. No big deal!

I don't think you need any kind of overwhelming gold theme just to make your dress fit in. Use whatever colors you want. The dress is a neutral color, so it's not like it will clash with other colors.

For shoes, try Macy's, Zappos, Amazon, and DSW. Any color of shoe would be pretty with that dress (gold, ivory, purple, teal, blue, whatever). Wearing a color would not detract from the dress at all. I think it would look great!

A simple strand of pearls, or no necklace at all with drop pearl earrings would be stunning. Good luck and have fun picking stuff out!

By the way, that dress is beautiful!

I'm wearing the same dress! I'm planning on doing simple gold and diamond earrings, nude pumps, and a baby's breath crown. FI is going to wear a navy suit.

I think pearls would be GORGEOUS (and if I had more traditional style, that's totally what I would do!). You could do something simple (maybe like https://www.etsy.com/listing/113309608/single-pearl-necklace-14k-gold for a necklace and either pearl studs or some simple pearl drop earrings depending on how ornate you want to go). Also, the dress is so long and tapered that I don't think anyone will even see the shoes, so wear whatever makes you happy/is comfortable! And as for the suit, I think grey and gold work well together! Grey is a neutral so it'll go with anything.

ETA: I do think gold-based jewelry looks best with the dress (I tried on some silver with mine and I thought it looked kinda off), but if there isn't a ton of silver on the jewelry, I don't think it will clash at all.
  • I think gold and pearl accessories would look best with your dress and your FI's ivory shirt will look really nice next to your dress too. For shoes a pretty ivory/cream or even nude heel would be gorgeous since it will tie in with the sash.
  • Gold and Pearls would look beautiful with that dress.  As for shoes, I think a Nude or Gold would look good, but if you are looking for color definitely try it! You really will never know until you see it with the dress.

As for your H to be, He may want to try a White shirt.  Although your dress is Ivory, some Ivory dress shirts look "dingy" next to the bridal ivory dresses.  I wore an Ivory dress, and while my H wore a Lavender shirt, we originally had bought an ivory shirt for him-- I was given the ivory/white advise and put it next to my dress and the Ivory looked gross next to my dress. So we got the GM and my dad White shirts and H changed to Lavender.

  • Thank you guys for your advice! Still looking for shoes, but I'm rethinking the ivory shirt. I heard the rule about ivory shirts to match the dress, but it does look pretty dingy, so I think I'll bring a while shirt with me to the fitting to see how it looks next to the dress.
