NWR: Baby shower invite question

I'm throwing a baby shower for my SIL. She said she had everything she needs but she registered for some larger items but admits the list is small. She said that she would appreciate toys, books and other things other mom's have found helpful. Would anyone know how to word that for the shower invitation or is that something I should spread by word of mouth?

  • If there's room on the invite, the way you just worded it sounds good. "SIL is registered at x, or would appreciate toys, books, and other things you moms have found helpful." (Correct me if I'm wrong, ladies, but I believe that's acceptable etiquette-wise?)

I actually would have loved that for the last baby shower I was invited to, because I LOVE to give books, but she had only registered for like super practical stuff (shampoo, thermometer, etc). And I didn't want to go off-registry cuz I assumed there was a reason she registered for what she did, so I picked out a boring gift. Oh well.

  • oh @novella1186, I think we were raised the same way. Off-registry is a bit of a side-eye in my family...unless it's books. Books are always A-OK, haha.

I think that sounds fine for an invite! I'd also appreciate knowing I had the go-ahead to go off-registry for neat stuff.
  • Something my Aunt did for my cousin's shower was ask that in lieu of a card, guests bring a book. My family loved the idea, although I am not sure where it stands etiquette-wise...

I did this for a shower I threw last February.  Some still gave cards, others gave books...either way, it was nice. I figured since you could get a card a book at the dollar store so it was pretty much the same cost as a card.
  • Thanks! I love the idea of a book instead of a card. I may use that
