Questions about payment to vendors

Hi all, I'm in the process of choosing my photographer. Would anyone consider paying a vendor in full up front to receive a discounted price or are you opposed to that? I'm on the fence about it. I feel that with my wedding a year away, I shouldn't pay it all in full - more I feel for security reasons. What if they don't show up since they have my money already?? Although a signed contract would be given to me, my gut is telling me not to pay in full. Thoughts?? Thanks!

Re: Questions about payment to vendors

  • @Chrissyf729...Im with you...go with your gut....I would feel uncomfortable about paying in full a whole year before the wedding.  I felt uncomfortable about paying in full weeks before the wedding for same reasons as you stated, however the knotties here educated me that a lot of vendors require full payment prior to the wedding but not a whole year....

I know they are offering you a better rate if you pay in full now, but that honestly makes me even more nervous...

My thoughts?? Go with your gut... :)
  • Thank you for your input! I do appreciate it! I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt it was a little strange.
  • definitely wouldn't pay in full - i told my photographer i would pay everything in cash and he lowered it, but i'm not paying upfront for sure - just the 'retainer' and then i pay the rest a month before which is reasonable.
  • I wouldn't pay any vendor in full.  You want to make sure they do a good job and show up to your wedding.
  • Thanks everyone! I appreciate the feedback. My fiance wasn't too keen on the idea either.
  • I booked all of my vendors a year (maybe a little more) out.  They only go deposits.  As much as I liked them I wasn't willing to shell out all the money to be screwed.  There's always a chance you could get screwed out of your deposit but at least its not the full contract amount.
