Wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses

I called David's Bridal and they said at it would take up to 11 weeks (including alterations) for both the bridesmaids and my wedding dress. Does that sound right to anyone? I heard 8-6 months just to get the dress in (no fittings) but that was on SAY YES TO THE DRESS.

Re: Wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses

  • I'm unclear of your exact question, but for my wedding dress Davids told me it would be in 6-8 weeks. Dress came in early, around 2 weeks after ordering. They told my bridesmaid the same 6-8 week estimate and hers took about 4 to get in.

For alterations, they have said to allow 2 weeks. I haven't had my first appointment yet, so cannot say how long actually.

So I guess the point is, not everything takes months and months like on tv. Some do, but they should be able to tell you which ones will.

I was told 15 weeks for my dress because I went with Champagne option, got it in 4 weeks. Bridesmaids were told 8 weeks, they both came in less then 2 weeks. They scheduled me to have my alterations took about 2 weeks, but all I had done was a bustle & had the zipper converted to a corset back. I think time for alterations is impacted by how much you are you having altered and the detail in the dress. A simple dress with no beading won't take as long to alter as a dress full of details.

That doesn't mean that certain styles & sizes don't take longer to get it. Like if you order a tall size, or petite, or a style that isn't ordered very often, it may take longer to get in as they may not stock the inventory on those as they do other styles & sizes.

Keep in mind, most of those dresses on SYTTD as custom made at the time they are ordered and done specifically to that brides measurements so they do take longer to make.

  • I was told to give about 8 weeks for wedding dress, but it arrived after about 3 weeks. Bridesmaids were told 10 weeks and theirs only took 2. The time they give is usually an estimate and that's the latest they will be in by.

  • My dress came in about 3 weeks. I recommend not using them for alterations, by the way. They are way overpriced.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • David's has like 8,000 of their dresses sitting in a warehouse- so yes, they typically arrive within a month or two. The ones you see on Say Yes to the Dress are completely different. They are designer gowns which are all custom made to order. There is not one sitting in your size in a warehouse, so those do typically take 6-12 months.

  • I didn't buy a dress at Davids but my girls got their bridesmaids dresses there.  They each got a different style and they call came in within only a few days/week-ish
  • One thing I recomend when trying dresses on at Davids, is asking them the explicit price list specific to each dress for alterations. They have a book that says. My MOH kept the notes in her phone.
  • My dress came in after just five days. My girls were more like 3 weeks.
  • Did not get my dress at David's Bridal but the place I ordered from told me 12-18 weeks for my dress.

  • Bridesmaid dresses they said can be up to 14 weeks.  Last summer I was in one and they said like 10 weeks and it came in 4.  We just ordered my BM dresses a week ago and they said 4 weeks, I'm guessing they will be in about next week
  • i was just told 4-6 months for my gown, and same for bridesmaids - but not at DB. David's Bridal is  pretty high volume so I would even bet they come sooner. Keep in mind, they overshoot the delivery so as to avoid brides beating them up for a dress not arriving in their exact timeframe. It buys them some elbow room.

It also depends on the kinds of dresses. some are more difficult to alter than others.
  • What Jenna said. They aren't made to order at David's so they will arrive much faster.

  • I think it depends on the dress and sizes available.  I believe the bridesmaids dresses weren't available is the size and color we needed so it took a little longer.  My girls all got there dresses in 8-10 weeks. I would check online to see if the size/style/color is available.  If it is, expect that it will come in faster.  Also, you don't have to order the dress straight through the store if it's available online already.
