Casablanca Brides

I finally decided on a dress.. it is Casablanca 2136. I'm wondering if anyone else has gone with this designer? They do the hem custom included in the price of the dress so I haven't been measured yet because I'm short and don't have shoes so I want to makes sure I get it the right length.. they said for $70 extra I could get the bust, waist, hip measurements custom cut as well.. in this cut of dress do you think that is worth it? It's not form fitting all the way down, just to the waist so I'm not sure if it will be worth it to pay to have it custom cut.. suggestions? Should I see how close I am to a stock size, order it, and alter if needed after I get it?

  • Hi

I ordered a Casablanca dress too.# 2162. To be honest I was so excited about the dress I did not even think about the hem. I ordered the dress 2 sizes smaller (losing weight that I gained from being in a cast all fall). I figured that I would just do the alterations when it comes in.

Have them do your measurements and see how close you are to stock. If you think the alterations are going to be a lot, than I would do the $70.00 extra that is not bad

I was told that it will take 12-18 weeks for the dress to come in

  • Even if you get the custom measurements, you MIGHT still need alterations, so that's something to keep in mind. The dress I ordered did not have an option for custom measurements but I just happened to have the exact same size waist as the size the dress came in. And it ended up being too tight on me, so they're going to remove some boning to see if that helps, and if not they're going to let the seams out a little. I didn't gain weight, but the owner said the boning on the inside takes up room and can make the dress fit too snug.

How much would alterations cost overall? Like if it needed to be taken in in a couple places, would it cost significantly more than $70? If it needs to be tweaked a little in addition to the custom measurements, how much is that going to cost? And how far off are you from the standard measurements?

  • I wore Casablanca 2089 (from their Fall 2012 collection). Even with custom measurements I still had to have some alterations done since they size to your largest measurement. Honestly, I'd pay extra because you'll end up putting at least $70 (and probably much more) in to alterations once you get the actual dress. I think I spent about $175 on all of my alterations (taking in the bust, some very very minor hemming on the sides, bustle, etc.) and that's pretty average.

I wore Casablanca 2072.  I opted for the custom bust because I did not like the sweatheart neckline, but tried a similar casablanca that had the "scoop" neckline, so it gave the same shape but was much more comfortable to me, so I spent the extra money on the scoop bust.  I am short so no matter what size I got ordered I would have had to hem it so was measured that day. I would not get it hemmed until you get fitted in your dress with the shoes you plan on wearing.  I had to order a size up for my bust so knew I would be getting the dress taken in everywhere else.  I would much rather it be a little too big/long then it come in too short or tight!

edit-- i opted to get the different neckline because that would have been harder to change after the dress was bought.  hem and taking it in is something you would have to do regardless (in most cases) so would not spend extra money to do that before your dress comes in.  The samples will always be a little off due to how much they have been warn and stretched.

  • I would think alterations would cost more than$70 for all those areas so that sounds like a good deal to me?!
