YAY!! Major thing checked off the checklist!!!!!!!!!!

FI and I are having one of his friends officiate the wedding.  We're taking advantage of DC's temporary officiant law, but I had been freaking out that we would need to take my mom's judge friend up on her offer to co-officiate if the license was a bigger pain in the butt than we had heard.  BUT - that's not necessary, because his license application has officially been granted!!!  He is officially official, if only temporarily!

I'm over at work doing my happy dance!!!!!!

Re: YAY!! Major thing checked off the checklist!!!!!!!!!!

  • Woo hoo! That is a great thing to be able to check off the list!
  • That's great! We had my uncle officiate as neither my H nor myself are close to a religious leader (and didn't want a random person either). It was perfect! My uncle is a leader in his Jewish community so he was great at leading a service and many of our guests didn't realize that this was his first time officiating as he was so great at it!

Even better then having someone you love officiate is writing your own ceremony. I didn't know many people that had gone this route so I hadn't realized it fell on us to write it. I was so overwhelmed at first, but then I went online and starting looking at all kinds of examples and readings and combined them into a perfect ceremony for us. It was so unique and special and us!

I would be happy to share what I came up with if you need a starting point or to start looking at ideas! Just PM me!

Thank you SO much!!  I've been looking for all sorts of examples, so I might take you up on that :)
  • woohoo!  I like the idea of it being someone I know, but I do want to have it be a bit religious even though we don't go to a regular church and thus I don't have a specific person I can choose. I am trying to decide between a random person who can do a bit of a religious aspect or using someone I'm closer to but knowing it will be non-religious.
  • Woohoo that's great!! I had a friend do it too, so I had to write the script. I put together half from google, vows from @lolo883 and reading from @bubblegum1309 hahah. Everyone told me they loved it.

  • Congrats!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

You could have it be religious, even if it isn't a religious official.  You could ask them to do a reading from the bible or say a prayer, or ask a family member to say a prayer.  That could be a good compromise

I really loved our ceremony. Just a dash of God, easy on the Jesus, very personal.
