Special skin regime?

Did any of you change your skin regimen a good month or two before your wedding?  Like did you do extra facials or anything like that?  Just curious!

Re: Special skin regime?

  • I started about a year out. I used a really good moisturizer and under eye cream. I also made sure that any lotion I used had a sunblock in it. I made washing my face each morning and night a routine.

You really don't want to change anything up a month out because you don't know how it'll affect your skin, and it might be too close in time if there's a problem. This is a good skincare timeline.

"There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness." -Friedrich Nietzsche, "On Reading and Writing"
  • I also started about a year out. Like the PP said, you don't want to change up your skin care routine so close to your wedding. I have very sensitive skin, and I never know what might cause a bad reaction.

The most important things I did was moisturize and exfoliate. I'm not one to get facials, so I didn't do that.
  • I'm just over 2 months out, and I've been making sure to drink extra water and moisturize my skin more, but that could also be because it's so cold and dry, so I need more of that.  I definitely wouldn't try anything new that soon before your wedding, but you might want to moisturize more, or make sure to put that extra coat of nail strengthener on.
  • I know some people really recommend a facial right before your wedding, but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you've had a facial before and know how your skin will react to it.

I have just kept a very simple skin regime for about the past 8 months.  I have hormonal acne (it's controlled with medications) so I have to see a dermatologist every 3 months.  So that has also helped my skin say on track.

I just wouldn't do any major changes close to your wedding.

  • I haven't started a new skin routine, but my skin is pretty clear.  I'm not even sure if I should do a facial since not really doing anything for my skin is working.  I've actually never had a facial... Are they worth it?
My makeup artist said to start exfoliating my lips daily two weeks before the wedding with a mixture of olive oil and sugar.  I get really dry lips so I don't want them to be chap the day of.

To me, no.  Get a good masque at the drugstore and you can get the same effect at home for much cheaper.

  • @climbingwife, what did you use to exfoliate? The last time I got a facial I was told I should do this more, but I didn't want to buy the ridiculously overpriced product she was trying to sell me. Any suggestions?

I use a scrub from 100 Percent Pure. I love all of their products.
  • How often do you ladies exfoliate? I have a problem with my skin being shiny (mostly forehead and nose) but it's not oily, and then I read somewhere that it's because I may be exfoliating too often.

I exfoliate like 2-3 times a week.  I used to have a clarisonic, and thought that if I used it every day my face would be super clean and I wouldn't have acne anymore.  WRONG. I was overexfoliating and it made everything worse.

    ------------

Clarisonics should at most be used maybe 3 times a *week*. I ultimately recommend using it 2-3 times. Definitely not twice a day like the package suggests. A clarisonic is great, but the directions are not good to follow.

I feel like these are the products I've been searching for for months! THANK YOU!

I may use it to exfoliate again someday after the wedding, but definitely not now while my face is clear!

Story time! I feel that I was scammed(?) by an aesthetician. I paid her LOTS of money for facials, used solely her products, and while I was going to her for facials every 4 weeks.  She told me that I had to use the clarisonic (that I bought from her) every day.

She made me feel guilty if I didn't buy the products that she was suggesting.  She made me feel terrible because everytime I would go to her she would scoff at how terrible my skin looked (despite me following her recommended regime) .

She said my dermatologist was wrong and that I shouldn't listen to her, to just keep coming to her and it would get better.

I went to this lady every 4 weeks for an entire year and my face was embarrassingly bad. I quit going to her, and she texted me asking about my face a few months after, and I told her the medications that I was taking and the regime I was following, and she still tried to discredit my dermatologist!  I tactfully told her that what my dermatologist recommended was working, and that what she suggested did not work for me.  I haven't heard from her since.

That's why I'm very anti salon facials.

No problem! Someone recommended them to me a while ago, and I've been using them ever since. Honestly, my skin has never looked better.
  • I wouldn't make any drastic changes a more or two before the wedding. Stick to the basics: drink a lot of water, exercise daily, sleep at least 8 hours per night, make sure you remove all your makeup at night, wash your face twice daily, use a good moisturizer.

One simple thing that makes a huge difference (and which has been discussed a lot on this thread already!!!) is exfoliating. If you don't already exfoliate regularly, you should limit to once or twice per week and use a gentle product.
  • I'm not a big fan of mechanical exfoliation, I think chemical exfoliation is much gentler and ultimately better for the skin. I love Paula's Choice products for everything, I highly recommend her BHA/AHA exfoliating treatments.

I used Glamglow mud mask and LOVED it. It was about $70 or so for a small jar, but it was 100% worth it. I had no break outs at all. I actually was thinking this weekend about how I want to go buy some more next time I go to the mall. ETA: I bought it about a month and a half before my wedding and used it once to twice a week.
  • I started my regime about 6 months ago but I made the bad decison of going off Birth Control and now I'm paying for it! I've been washing my face every morning and night and using Salyclic Acid in the morning and Benzoyl peroxide at night. As well as exfoliating ever other day with an all natural product and using a all natural face mask once a week and making sure I use a moisturizer that won't clog my pores and I am starting to finally see a difference!

I know it may sound weird but if you are having face issues or just trying to keep it under control I acutally change my pillow case a couple times a week and I have been keeping my finger nails shorter so bacteria doesn't get caught under them if I happen to touch my face.

I also don't recommend going for a facial before the wedding if you don't go for one regularly. Your face could have a bad reaction/breakout!

I agree with @crimsonsaffron , I love natural skincare regimens and facials. I will include some of my favorite products below.
