Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

A way to wear my dress again?

Hi ladies, I was wondering if any of you chose to have your wedding dress altered to make it wearable again.... My dress is ivory, knee-length, and strapless, and what I was thinking was that after my July wedding, I'd love to have it dyed, shortened an inch or so, and made more into a cocktail dress to wear on our belated honeymoon cruise this November... Has anyone ever done something like this before?  Thanks!

Re: A way to wear my dress again?

  • That's a cute idea!  My cousin and I were just talking with my new sister-in-law.  We think we're all going to wear our wedding gowns at Christmas.  My cousin got married 3 weeks ago.  My bro and new SIL just got married last weekend.  And my wedding is in August.  Except...we aren't going to make any changes...just wear them for Christmas and get a picture of us all together.  I have a feeling it's going to look like that episode of Friends.

It has a few shots at the end of the wedding album that shows her dress after she dyed it.
  • We're planning to cut mine up to make clothes and blankets for our future children.

I am cutting the top off of mine to make a corset top and the skirt will be made into decorative pillows for our bed.

  • Mine was actually in a style I could have done something like that with, but donated it to Brides Against Breast Cancer instead. There are so many options besides letting it sit in a box for the rest of your life!
  • I think I will add a color sash (similiar to the bridesmaid dresses) to the waist and wear it on our first anniversary, or to a company party or something fancy.  my mom suggested wearing it every year on our anniversary....good motivator, huh??
