Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

Did this happen to anyone?

Hi Ladies!
I'm hoping maybe someone has some advice on this issue. It's a little hard for brides-to-be to offer advice because they haven't experienced this yet.
I have heard that mineral makeup may not photograph well as it reflects light and it makes your face show up "ghosty" in photos. Did anyone have this problem? or conversely, did anyone have success with mineral makeup?
thank you for any advice or comments!!

I was told the same thing and skipped it for my wedding just in case.
  • Not married yet but worked in a makeup studio in college.  It is Absolutely True!  mineral makeup is really for everday use and nothing else. It doesn't give the coverage you need, it does poorly reflect light, and it wont really look like your wearing anything (in a bad way, not in the way that your makeup is so beautiful and natural).  Please, just for this one day, find a makeup artist that you like, and does a good balance of photography and natural makeup so you'll look great and still feel like yourself.
  • Try airbrushed makeup instead. It is wonderful and natural looking in photos.
  • I have heard the same thing as well. Can you buy airbrushed make-up in the stores, like Sephora or the MAC counter?
  • Nope, you need to get make up done professionally to do it because they use an airbrush tool.

If you are not doing that, I would suggest just using a liquid medium cover foundation, and avoiding the use of any powders on your face (eyeshadow, face powder) because it can all look grainy in photos-particularly when applied at home.

A lot of the beautiful young brides here do not need professional makeup, but I think particularly if you are doing an extensive amount of photography, it is a good idea and not the wasteful extravagance some people make it out to be. It cost me around $200.00 in Vegas, it is cheaper in many other places.
  • I wore mineral makeup.  It turned out perfectly fine in all of the pictures, I was comfortable and I looked like me in every one of them.

I did use a touch more bronzer than I normally do by mixing in a very small amount with my foundation and then after applying a thin layer highlighting where the sun would normally hit my face on top of that.

You will only really look washed out if your photographers are using fill flash that is pointed directly at you - that makes everyone harsh and washed out no matter what makeup.  Pro's know to bounce the light to get a more natural light and soft shadows.

If you normally wear mineral makeup, then stick with that.  Airbrushed or other will make you look un-natural and possibly give you a "caked" look.  When you look back on your pictures, you'll want to feel like you.

  • I hate mineral makeup to begin with because it doesn't have enough coverage for me.  I used Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation and I loved it so much that I know use it regularly.  It's made for being photographed and the coverage lasted all day!

  • I had airbrush makeup, and I was soooo glad I spent extra to have it done. We got married in Louisiana on May 29th, and needless to say it was hot and humid. The ceremony portion of the day- while it was only 20 minutes- was outside and HOT! My makeup looked great through the humidity, sweat, and tears during our vows and the best man/moh speeches. I highly recommend it.
