Can I have my BOTH Lace Corset & Buttons ON MY GOWN???

I have found my wedding dress, but it has a lace corset in the back.  my dream was to have covered buttons (i just love love love that look).  my seamstress said the dress will not fit the same.  Has anyone ever added buttons to a dress that also has the corset, starting the buttons after the corset ends?  Does this look silly?  any pics would be awsome !!

Re: Can I have my BOTH Lace Corset & Buttons ON MY GOWN???

  • I mean you can add buttons down the back of your dress because they will only be decorative rather then functional, but I just don't see the point and think it would look kind of odd.

  • I google searched "button and corset wedding dress" and found one example similar to what you describe with a corset at the top and buttons on the bottom (but they were pearl, not covered).  I do not know how to include pictures but the picture is about near the bottom of the page on this website- http://www.bakersfieldalterations.com/before-afters/

I think it looks weird.  I also wanted covered buttons on my dress but then ended up buying a dress with a zip back. I could have sewn buttons on if I wanted and it would have suited the dress fine but it really wasn't necessary.  I also ended up wearing my hair down so it would have been a bit of a waste of time.  I think wedding dresses are a hard buy because you want them to have every little detail you always dreamed about.  The reality is if one dress contained all the potential desired details, it would likely be a horrendous mess.

That said, you should be able to have decorative covered buttons added to almost any dress without a problem.  They won't be functional but they will have the "look." Any seamstress can do this.  If you really want them, I suggest asking your seamstress if they can tack some buttons onto your dress so you can get a feel for what it will look like, then decide if its perfect or overkill.
  • Thanks !! I saw same pic and thought same thing . There was that bit of hope I was wrong and it would look ok .. Lol

  • You can always try it to see if it works out on your particular dress.  Buy some covered buttons and have them tacked to the dress.  This can be done in a way that is easy to remove and won't ruin the garment.  If you like the look, which you might, you have them sewn on more permanently.  If you hate them, they can easily be removed, especially since it sounds like they will only be decorative.
  • Based on the one picture above, it looks like the bride bought a button down dress but had had the top part switched to corset so that it would fit, and with it being half corset and half button, it looks like half a style.
  • dress looks a little to much with both the corset and the buttons on top of it she has a corset with no panel underneath so she is showing pure skin. i guess it would be ok if your wedding was not in a church where there were some restrictions

  • I have a dress without the corset back (just a zipper back) and buttons down the entire back.  I wanted a corset dress, but went with the buttons.  I even considered if I should try what you are thinking- but I think it wouldn't look right.  The buttons all the way down the back of my dress give the illusion that I have a button back dress when really it's just a zipper.  I say enjoy having a corset back and don't mess with it.  But that's just my opinion.
