The Dress

Is it all over your FB too? What color do YOU see?

I see gold and white.. And sometimes baby blue and brownish gold..
DH says it's OBVIOUSLY blue and black... I just don't see blue and black. If you think about light refraction in the picture and what it is supposed to be.. Then I see how you get blue and black. But I don't see any black!

Re: The Dress

  • It is all over my FB. And I seriously don't understand how people see it as white. Like no matter how I look at it, not matter how much you distort it, it always looks blue. The gold I can understand, though it looks more brown or olive to me. But I had assumed it was actually black and the yellow tinge was the camera phone.

Seriously how does anyone think it's a white dress?

  • I see white and gold, without question.
My son says blue and black.
    WTF?
  • It's white and gold!!!! FI says blue and black.

The dress is, apparently, ACTUALLY blue and black. I can no longer trust my senses.

  • I think it depends on which version of the photo you see?

My Fi and I looked at the first photo/article I saw in my newsfeed and we agreed, white and gold. Obviously. Later we read something that said it actually had nothing to do with the parts in our eyeballs making us see different things, it was the editing of the picture. THEN he sees "the same" picture on Instagram and he swore it was white and gold previously, now it's blue and black. -eye roll-

We also saw an article where there was a .gif where it switched between the two color schemes, and I got him to admit that the white and gold picture was THE EXACT SAME thing he said changed colors on Instagram.

Obviously, when the .gif was blue and black, I saw blue and black. When it was white and gold, I saw white and gold.

This is now a contentious topic in our household.

  • Ugh, this picture has been filling up my newsfeed.  I have no idea how people see anything other than white/gold.

  • I see blue and black, no matter what version it is. Even if I lighten my screen all the way, and look at 20 different photos, it's still blue and black to me.
  • My son saved the photo to our pictures, and the results stayed the same...he sees blue, I see white.
Weirdly, I walked away, came back, and saw the blue and black, but 5 minutes later it was white and gold. I can't see the blue and black again no matter how I tilt the screen or adjust the lighting.
It has to be some bizarre ocular perception thing.

    I see white and gold.
  • White and gold.  If I tilt the screen back a mile I see black and blue, though.
    image
  • Where's the black? I just don't get it. It looks white and gold to me. I can see how the white looks blue because of the lighting, but I don't see how the gold/brown can look black at a different color/angle. Now I feel like I'm losing it.

  • White and gold.

I was reading a bunch of articles explaining it and apparently the dress actually is black and blue. Like HelloSweetie, I feel like I can't trust my senses and am looking around wondering if EVERYTHING is a completely different color than I see.

  • Here's a scientific explanation: http://www.wired.com/2015/02/science-one-agrees-color-dress/

I still see white and gold no matter what.
  • Both the link and the posted picture in this post are white and gold to me.  Two images I saw on Yahoo are black and blue.

  • I swear that stupid dress is white and gold.  HOW DO YOU SEE BLUE AND BLACK?!
  • This dress is driving me fucking crazy. When I was scrolling through my FB newsfeed, I saw white and gold. 3 seconds later, when I scrolled back up, it was black and blue.

My H and I looked at the picture then together. He saw white and gold and I saw black and blue. THE SAME PICTURE. WTF is the sorcery?

The same thing happened to me. At first, it was white and gold but after reading the article and scrolling back up, I saw blue and black. But then it turned white and gold in front of my eyes.

Everyone is like "who cares" on the comments on Facebook, but I think it's fascinating how we see it differently and how our eyes see light but I am a nerd like that.

  • If I scroll from top to bottom it's white and gold. Bottom to top is blur and black.

  • How did this thing happen so quickly? I saw it once on my newsfeed at like 10 pm, and then like 15 minutes later it was everywhere. I've never seen something so mundane spread so fast.

And y'all are nuts. It's white and gold.

I saw blue and brown which confused fi. Apparently that's not an answer.

Edit: that was last night. I went back and checked and I still see blue and brown. I can see why people say white though.

Yeah I saw a blue-tinged white and dull gold to start with. Like white with a blue light cast.

But now it's straight up cobalt blue and fully saturated black.

It was all over tumblr/reddit/gawker all day.

  • I seriously cannot understand why people cannot see that bright ass blue.  There is nothing white on that dress. It's freaking me out.
  • I'm sick of this dress already. At first, I saw white and gold. Then I was able to see black and blue. Now, I can look at it and make it whichever at will.

I have tried EVERYTHING and cannot see blue and black. Even KNOWING that my eyes are lying, I still can only see white and gold.
The bottom of the dress looks more blue-ish to me but I had only seen white and gold. I tried what lolo said and scrolled bottom to top and then I saw it more blue, but I still didn't see black. But if I squint REALLY hard, I can kind of understand the blue and black perception.

That's how I feel, except the opposite.  I see nothing even remotely black, and can only see maybe a very light blue.  How is this possible?  We both have normal eyes, right?

10000% white and gold.  I could MAYBE see the white as like a baby blue.  Showed the exact same pic to FI this morning, black and blue.

ETF: black and blue, not black and gold
  • I see white and gold and then when I go back to it, I see black and blue. I see predominately black and blue.

And then I promptly shared this with everybody at work as to make them as fucking crazy as me today.

    image
  • If those are my only options then I'm going with white and gold. It looks like a very pale blue closer to white to me than blue, and the gold looks like tan/brown. I see no black.
