Re: New Knot

  • I like blue, but it's so ... baby blue.

Maybe I'm getting old, but that light of a color on a white background hurts my eyes. Why can't the text be royal or navy blue?

  • I think I'm going to be fine with it in a week.

The blue is a little...precious?...but it's not offending my eyes or anything.

  • The color is not bothering me as much as the drop downs. It's super annoying to be clicking through pages and having them appear for way too long. And why is the drop down banner so thick?
  • My main issue is just that the new design takes so damn long to load anything.  My internet at work isn't always the best, but damn, it took forever today.  That main pinterest page killed me.

  • GAH! The timeline on my checklist is now completely f'd up!

I thought I'd upgrade and see what the new checklist looked like. MISTAKE! I think it's confused because it's listing all of my future to do's in June '15 (including some things that I know are WAY past due, like booking a DJ). Problem is, my wedding is May 30, 2015...

I absolutely hate it when websites release new editions before they've thoroughly tested them. Major, major fail TK!
  • I now apparently have every message board (special and the regular boards) all on my "community" page...

That's new. As of like 5mins ago.

  • This website sucks on Chrome.  And it's clear that XO did not hire a User Experience developer.

They actually have a whole UE team. Though I will add that my husband is a UE designer, and he doesn't really seem to think about Chrome. I know he checks everything in Chrome, but he focuses primarily on Safari & Firefox, plus mobile.

  • Yay!!  Winston is back.  Sorry ladies.  I drank a Neo-Citron last night and passed out.

I don't mind the blue, though it's a little girly for me.   I suppose it should be though, since TK is a wedding site after all.  But blue is my favourite colour.  I remember when the last change came through and everyone was complaining that it was all white.

And I kinda liked how 4/5 threads on the most popular threads on the front page were from here.  Let's take over that front page with chit chat!!  But me thinks that we're gonna get a lot more SS's here from people reading the first line of a post and clicking

I also hate the bigger drop downs.  My mouse always passes over them by mistake and they take too long to disappear so I can click on what I really wanted to.

  • I'm fine with the blue I guess, I'm just bummed they took away my favorite feature in Real Weddings :(

  • Since the update, the countdown on the website is off by one day - don't tell me I only have 23 days when I know I have 24!!!!

I hate when things look so "mobile friendly" and I'm on a real computer.  It feels all googly and huge. Do I need GIANT "follow us" buttons?? Nope.

And I couldn't sign in on mobile.

Yeah, this new GUI is kinda sucky.  I don't like it.

  • I don't hate the blue IRL, but it's too light to use in such high volumes over white on web. Just gives me a headache.

I never go to the regular TK pages, just forums. :)

I have that issue too... I hate that the tasks aren't broken down by month now also.  That was super helpful for me.  Guess I'll have to find another checklist to use that is a little more helpful, because the old one is only available til July.

Our client definitely makes sure we test thoroughly in Chrome, Firefox, IE (since that is the browser "of choice" of this client ... don't' get me started.) as well as mobile / tablets.  I'm probably just a bit more sensitive right now since I'm in the midst of testing a site after an infrastructure upgrade.  If my testing team "passed" this with those glaring errors, I'd be pissed.
  • Another big fail is that they took away the payment organizer in the budget list. Basically now, you either have the whole amount, or nothing.  Having a way to track deposits and partial payments as part of the entire amount was super helpful.

And, at least this morning, the site was not mobile friendly.  I opened an article on my phone off of Facebook and it was ginormous and I couldn't read it.

Hey, my FI is an UX person too! I see all websites in an entirely different light after being with him and learning about the field. The first thing I said when I saw the new TK was "damn, they should have hired you and this would have turned out WAY better".

Everyone should be developing and testing based on the browsers their users are actually using... and if they're not, the web analyst in me will haunt their dreams.

  • I'm on Firefox and I have a ton of blank space on the left of the page, while the stuff on the right side of the page is running off the edge. And there's no bar on the bottom for me to move the page over so I can see everything.  There are buttons on the right that I can't access.

Otherwise I'm pretty meh about the changes so far.

That and I can't find the guest list manager... which this early in the game isn't disastrous, but it's going to be a headache.

UPDATE: I found it on the My Knot page... but it's jank.

I have the exact same problem on Chrome.

I never go anywhere but the forums, and the Chit Chat page is bookmarked, so I hardly even see the plain "wedding boards" page except when I pop into another board as necessary. I'll have to check out this "featured posts" stuff...

ETA: Just checked it out. I wonder if it's an automated system that puts the most viewed/most responses first? If so, TK is gonna have a real shitshow on their hands every time a topic gets heated...

It also kind of makes me NOT want to post a popular thread (not that it happens that often) just because ugh. I don't like the idea of having my threads and username front and center like that.

I'm really glad our boards don't look like the boards on The Bump with the huge quotes and weird font.  Also, I love blue, but this is so much light blue.  I'm sure I'll be used to it in a few days though.

For the website (not the forums part of it) I hate having to scroll through big pictures and check what is underneath them, I want more order I guess.  And just in general, the blue seems brighter.  At first I was all:

Ugh, me too. I use my phone a lot because I don't have internet at my house yet, and I really hate this image-heavy, mobile-friendly phase everyone seems to be in. I really hope it goes away soon! I much prefer rows of text links with a written headline rather than images.
  • My boss HATES baby blue, so the color makes me giggle a little.  :)

I think the Beta testing would have gone tons better if they had done more than test the look of the site.  Almost nothing actually functioned and why bother looking at the beta??

  • ...I am not seeing any of the major issues mentioned in here myself. I use Chrome exclusively, on my work PC, my home Mac, and my iPhone. Huh.

Of course, I don't use TK's planning tools, nor do I ever go anywhere but the forums. My new tab home screen has my frequent pages and CC is the first one. So I just click that.

  • Well the mobile logout bug is alive and well.

I do like that the font is a little larger on mobile now though.

  • Just noticed my checklist has been totally deleted and everything is "to do".

    That's awesome.
