There is a mall called Riverwalk not far from Jackson Square and they have a Cafe du Monde cafe in the food court (at least they did the last time I was there, but it has been awhile).  None of the atmosphere but the same beignets.

I'm really excited about this thread. I'm going to New Orleans in June. DH is going on a business trip for 4 or 5 days and I'm tagging along. He'll be at the conference during the day so I have to occupy myself (I don't think that will be a problem).

I went to LSU and spent quite a bit of time in New Orleans.

Stay away from the Quarters. Maybe spend an hour or two to say you were there but it's nasty and touristy and dangerous.

Central Grocery. Muffaletta. You won't be sorry.

Take a cemetery tour. The cities of the dead are so unique and amazing and interesting!

Cafe Beignet on Royal street.  It's next to the police station.
