Re: New orleans

  • Okay, I need to watch this thread because we're planning on going for Halloween. Definitely staying in FQ, probably through Airbnb to save some money. We will not have a car, so being able to walk everywhere or take a streetcar or something is essential. We know we want to see the Beauregard-Keyes House.

I was wondering though if anyone has a rec for beignets besides Cafe du Monde. I have seen pictures of the insane lines of people and no thank you. Surely it's not the only place for them in the city or even in the French Quarter.

Also, is a swamp tour worth it or is it a dumb tourist thing?
There is a mall called Riverwalk not far from Jackson Square and they have a Cafe du Monde cafe in the food court (at least they did the last time I was there, but it has been awhile).  None of the atmosphere but the same beignets.  :)

  • I'm really excited about this thread. I'm going to New Orleans in June. DH is going on a business trip for 4 or 5 days and I'm tagging along. He'll be at the conference during the day so I have to occupy myself (I don't think that will be a problem).

  • I went to LSU and spent quite a bit of time in New Orleans.

Stay away from the Quarters. Maybe spend an hour or two to say you were there but it's nasty and touristy and dangerous.

Central Grocery. Muffaletta. You won't be sorry.

Take a cemetery tour. The cities of the dead are so unique and amazing and interesting!

Cafe Beignet on Royal street.  It's next to the police station.
    Thanks!
    I second this suggestion!!
