Buying veil and sash/belt online?

Has anyone bought their veil and/or sash or belt online? I looked at the ones on e-bay, and the photos look really good, plus the prices there are incredibly cheap (like $10 for veils and $25-$30 for sashes). Do you get what you pay for here? I feel like these items don't really need to be extremely "high quality" like a gown does (how many ways can you really screw up a veil?) and I'd like to be able to buy 2 or 3 of them to be able to pick which one I like most with my gown. Is this a bad idea? If they really are terrible I can always get one from my bridal salon but I'm wondering if the whole thing is a bad idea in the first place. ALSO...if you bought yours from a salon, how much did you pay? I have no idea what the typical range is for these items and I'd like to know if I'm getting a good deal since my bridal salon is pretty expensive.

Re: Buying veil and sash/belt online?

  • I bought both my headband and sash on Etsy and the quality was fantastic. I made sure that both of my vendors were highly recommended and I read through all of the reviews before purchasing. The headband was $63 and my sash was $40 I believe - both much cheaper than if I had purchased them through a bridal shop. Both vendors also had return policies clearly spelled out on their store pages.

If you go cheap, then most likely the quality will suffer. I was luckily able to balance cost and quality while still getting what I wanted. Granted, I would've loved to have been able to shell out $200 on a sash but when my dress was only $750, I couldn't justify that cost.

  • Can anyone recommend any specific etsy sites? When searching broadly, there are a ton!

  • cupcait927, I checked out some stuff on Etsy and it does seem pretty reasonable for the most part. I guess this would be a little safer than something like e-bay...

I used THIS site for my headband - she's got amazing reviews. I also got my order very quickly and the quality is fantastic.

Just stay away from any shops that say they are based in China and you should be okay :) You can also check out sites like preownedweddingdresses.com or tradesy.com if you find a specific designer that you like for sashes. They're preowned but generally much cheaper than buying brand new.
  • I bought a cheap veil on eBay. It was $13 for a fingertip, lace trimmed veil. It honestly looks great. I really couldn't justify spending a lot, so decided to try it, and figured if it didn't work out I really wasn't out much. It's perfect though. It needs pressed, and there are some loose threads coming off the trim that I need to go through and cut off, but no big deal.

  • I also used Etsy. My sash came from here and my veil came from here I was very happy with the prices ($110 for the sash with custom coloured ribbon and lots of crystal details; $50 for custom veil with added crystals)

  • I bought my hat on Etsy. It was this shop and the hat was lovely.
