AW: Makeup and Hair Trial (PIP)

I had my makeup trial this morning! I also tried out my hair style for wedding, but did it in kind of a rush.

I'm not sure how I feel about the makeup. I asked for it to be soft and natural, since we're having for a daytime wedding, but when I saw it...I guess I was just hoping for a little more wow, you know? And I asked the MUA to try make my eyes look more open. I think she definitely tried, but they still just look so heavy. Do you ladies have any suggestions on what might help with this? More lashes maybe? She put on a half strip of the little whispy ones but you can barely see them. Can I do a full strip without looking like a drag queen?

First, I think you look gorgeous, and I'm not convinced you need to change a thing!

But, if you want your eyes to look more "open" I think less eyeliner on the bottom lashes would work. In the picture it looks like she lined your water line, which is a sure-fire way to make your eyes look smaller/ more closed. And, if you want more "wow", maybe a touch more rosy blush? Or a slightly more pinkish nude lip?

As for the full strip vs half strip of eyelashes.... maybe try using a bunch of the individual clumps? That's what my MUA did at my trial yesterday. She used a bunch of them across almost my whole eye-- shorter ones towards the inner eye, longer ones on the outer edge. So... a lot of fake lashes! But since they were the individual ones the seemed to blend in well/ not look "drag queen."

  • Honestly, I really love both the hair and the makeup. It looks really nice. As for the lashes, I definitely think you could go for the full strip without looking like you're dressed in drag.

  • Try to do no eye liner on the bottom lid, a MUA did this when I got my makeup done for a friend's wedding and it really brought out my eyes. I haven't used eyeliner on the bottom lid since then.  Also, I agree, lighter color eye shadows might help lighten up the eyes a bit.  I am also having a daytime wedding, so I asked for a natural look with a little gold on the lids and no eyeliner on the bottom.
  • Have you tried nude eyeliner in your waterline, and using your crease color to blend on your lash line?  That will really make your eyes pop and look open, as well as adding mascara to your bottom lashes.

But honestly, I think you look great! and I love your hair.

I looked awful with the strips of lashes.  My MUA used the individual lashes.  Made a HUGE difference, looked more natural.  I also had her cut them down slightly so it didn't look unnatural.

I think your makeup looks nice, but if you're looking for more of the "wow" factor, I'd ask her to bump it up a notch or two.  This is the time to work with her to see which look you like best.  Good luck!
  • Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! I wrote them all down in my notes for the MUA :)
