Talk to me about eye creams

I had my makeup trial yesterday (went well-yay!). My makeup artist strongly suggested I invest in a good eye cream to smooth out my wrinkles before the wedding. *Sigh* .

Anyway,I am clueless about these things. I don't want to invest in a product without having recommendations. I prefer not to spend a ton of money, but I would love to hear if any of you ladies have any wondrous products you would swear by.

Thank you!

Re: Talk to me about eye creams

  • I love Dermalogica, and they have a few that are really great.  I have really sensitive skin, and I've never had an issue with any of their products.  This is the one I really love, http://www.dermstore.com/product_AGE+Smart+MultiVitamin+Power+Firm_12299.htm although I actually have a couple going.  Unfortunately they're expensive, but I find that they last for quite a while, and I just kind of had to get used to paying ridiculous amounts for things that don't burn my skin.

Otherwise,  I found some absolutely brilliant stuff by L'Core, https://www.lcoreparis.com/product-category/lcore-emerald/.  It's like, instant eye and fine line fixer.  Got rid of the puffiness and circles as well.  Just brilliant, but even though I didn't pay anything remotely close to the sticker price (I ended up paying pretty much what regular high end brands charge), I don't think I would have paid that much for anything if it wasn't for the wedding.  The salesman told me it will be good for two years (and more if I keep it in the fridge, I think) so that one only comes out for very special occasions.

  • Pricey, but I highly recommend Mary Kay Timewise line, especially the Firming Eye cream (http://www.marykay.com/en-US/Skin-Care/Collection/TimeWise/TimeWise-Firming-Eye-Cream/100722.partId?eCatId=10685) and the Dark Spot reducer (http://www.marykay.com/en-US/Skin-Care/Collection/TimeWise/TimeWise-Even-Complexion-Dark-Spot-Reducer/100756.partId?eCatId=10685).
Both these products should last for 3+ months, so I don't think the price is super outrageous.

  • I've been doing a lot of reading on anti-aging/anti-wrinkle creams lately, and from what I've seen, the only ingredient worth anything at all is retinol. Prescription-strength like Retin-A is obviously the most effective, but from what I understand, anything with 0.4% is going to be pretty effective and there are lots of medium-range ones out there. If your budget will stretch to it, Kate Sommerville makes a few well-reviewed and effective options, and philosophy does too and a little cheaper. If you're not up for a $60-$100 cream, though, the reading I did suggests that Neutrogena's retinol cream is the only drugstore one worth mentioning.

I don't know a ton about this yet but I went on a research binge about wrinkle creams just last week, so hopefully something here helps you.

  • I just bought this type of cream yesterday! Its from lancome and its called genifique yeux. It feels great so far and the reviews are pretty good too. But I just got this cream so my advice might not be the best!

  • +1 on retinol.  I've been using Paula's Choice serum with retinol all over my face at night (it's okay to put near your eyes) and really noticed a difference.

I use Laneige or Arbonne eye cream during the day.  You have to be careful with retinol to either use it only at night, or with a strong sunscreen over it, and sunscreen bothers my eyes.  So during the day I skip the retinol.

  • @JCbride2015 I was just looking at that since Paula's Choice has anti-aging products on sale. Do you like it? How long did it take for you to start seeing results?

  • I have seen amazing before and after pictures on my FB from this product. I haven't used it but the pictures I have seen make me want to.

  • Thanks so much ladies! These recommendations are helpful!
  • Do you use any sort of eye cream now? If you don't, even regular moisturizer concentrated around your eyes should help a bit. Mositurized skin is less likely to wrinkle. Most eye creams are just the same stuff as their moisturizer counterpart, just thicker and less scented to avoid irritation. If your wedding is close, I wouldn't rec trying out a brand new chemical ingredient (ie retinol, vit c, whatever). If you have 3+ months, then retinol is a great rec. Just leave time in case you have a reaction.

  • I do use a daily moisturizer- Loreal- I love it! I have 5+ months to go, so plenty of time to try something new!

To the bolded: excuse me???? Do you know her well? I think that's pretty rude, actually.

But anyway, I like the products from The Body Shop. I'm not using them as much as I should right now, but I have them for the days I'm feeling "old."

@blabla89 I'm only using the one product right now (the purple retinol serum) but I like it a lot.  I think after 2-3 weeks of using it I am seeing that my skin seems less flaky and the little lines in my forehead are a bit less noticeable.  It also
feels really nice.  My favorite part of the serum is that it has a very smooth finish, almost like a primer.  I'm actually thinking about switching over more parts of my routing to Paula's Choice because I like that one product so much!

Where is this sale?  I might have to take advantage...

  • @JCbride2015 I think it's just the Resist Anti-Aging line that's on sale, but if you go to paulaschoice.com it's at the top of the page.

  • thisismynickname She was telling me this while she was telling me that my makeup is at risk for caking in the laugh line region, not in an "OMG you look so old" way. She had 20 years on me, so I took it more as a lesson of experience than a dig on my age.

Oh ok, phew! In the crazed wedding industry I was afraid that was an image thing. God forbid a bride have laugh lines. :)

  • +1 for retinol to work on wrinkles, but for the under-eye area, it might be more of a hydration issue and less of a wrinkle problem. I have wrinkles under my eyes but they get SUPER horrific when I my skin (and my body) are dehydrated. I'm 24 and I look like I'm about 80 if I don't take care of it. Try applying something heavy under your eyes at night (I am swooning over the Balance Me Wonder Eye Creme) and then something lighter during the day (this actually isn't lighter, but I use BioOil under my makeup). Keep those under eye areas happy and hydrated and your skin should "puff" up a little bit. (In a good, healthy way.) Drinking water helps, too, but I stink at that and those two products have still worked wonders on my eye-area.
