    Yuuuup.

Here's the facts: this happened, you've obviously stewed about it - so much in fact that you felt the need to log into TK and post an entirely new thread about it.

    My biggest advice:

To be fair on the other side: WTF kind of 16 year old can't stay home alone or with another relative for a day?
Possibly a 16 year old who is mentally disabled. My friend's brother wasn't able to be left home alone until he was in his 20s because of his disability, and they don't have nearby family. Sometimes her mom would get his care provider to help out, but she wasn't always available on her days off (mom would pay her extra).
  • I have no idea the history behind this post, but I also find it obnoxious. If you get invited to something and you can't go, for whatever reason, then you don't go. Period. You don't try to pester the host into making the event easier for you. It's not different than saying "oh, we can't come to Florida for your wedding, but if you had it in California we'd be happy to make it"  or "Sorry, we can't make the 15th of the month, but we could go if you had it on the 8th".

I would ignore this, and send the invite to just the parents as planned, and pay special attention in case they try to sneak  him into the RSVP even though he wasn't invited. If they do that, you have to call and say he's not invited. If they just say they can't attend, then fine.
