Question about traveling under maiden name.

We're leaving for DR next week (!!!!!) and since I procrastinated in changing my passport, it's still in my maiden name. I booked my tickets under my maiden name. Should I also make sure to bring my old  DL with my maiden name? My passport should be enough, right? Or should I bring that ID too just in case?

I would bring your old DL just in case. I've never had them check my DL AND passport when travelling internationally, but you never know. Worst case scenario your passport gets stolen while you're there and you need to get it replaced ASAP.. so then what, if you have no other matching form of ID?

I would make sure that all your major forms of ID: passport and license (along with your plane ticket) all reflect the same name. Especially if you lose your license or your passport because if you lose your license or passport, there's no form of photo ID with the same name. But I think technically, you'd just need your passport. For my ease of mind, I'd bring both.

Ok, I'll bring my old DL too. I think I also have a credit card in my maiden name as well. I don't use it, but it can't hurt to have another thing in my old name.

You only need your passport.

If you decide to take your new drivers license I would also take your marriage certificate to show the link to the new name just in case it gets questioned.

I went to Jamaica last year with my passport in my maiden name and everything else in my married name. It wasn't an issue because you only show your passport at customs - I never had to show my drivers license. My travel agent did say that 2 years after the wedding is probably the latest I could get away with doing that.

If you change within a year of it being renewed, it's free. So I have until June. I need to get my ass in gear!

Yes, I missed that deadline which is why I still haven't renewed it!

Chiming in as a former travel industry person, as a general rule your driver's license won't ever be an issue outside of the country. A lot of places won't even accept it as valid ID. So don't worry about that one when you travel (unless you're renting a car) because your passport is always the best and most acceptable form of ID outside your own country.

As long as you have a valid passport that matches your travel documents, that will be all you need. Although, it is a good idea to have your passport match your credit or debit card as well, too, because some places will check your ID abroad when you use it.

The DR is a different country.  They don't care about your DL, they only care about your valid passport.   Most airlines will required they passport to match the ticket.

I would never recommend any one doing that.   Jamaica might let you get away with it, but other countries might not.    Honestly I'm surprised the airline even allowed you to get on the plane with a passport not matching your ticket.

It did match my ticket. I went to Montreal and Jamaica without an issue last year.
