@TwoDimes - I think that sounds like an awesome idea for a rehearsal dinner! Even do a bonfire (if you can) and have s'mores outside  :)

@TwoDimes That's almost exactly what we did! H's parents gave us a little cash to use, but we paid for about 50% of it and held a backyard bbq in my parent's backyard (theirs is bigger than ours, has a nicer deck, more seating, more parking, etc.). We rented tables and chairs and had the bbq company leave a person to serve food and handle clean up. It was the best!

@minskat that resort sounds amazing! I hope you guys have a great time!

@swazzle that is an awesome deal on the chairs!

@bethsmiles good luck with your defense!

@twodimes that sounds like a fantastic rehearsal dinner idea! And it's completely okay to host your own.

I have zero motivation to do any work today. We got an email from the VP at 8:30 pm last night that our coworker who was battling pancreatic cancer passed away yesterday. Over 100 people from my office went to visit him, and he lived longer than the doctors predicted, but it's still sad. I have been researching volunteer/fundraising opportunities for pancreatic cancer research all morning. I found a 5k walk/run that benefits pancreatic cancer research in Los Angeles on the first Saturday of May, and I think FI and I, as well as a few of our coworkers, are going to set up a team in honor of our coworker and do it.

    @AuroraRose41 I'm so sorry about your co-worker. :(

  • @AuroraRose41 - I'm so sorry about your co-worker *hugs* I think creating a team for the 5k in is honor is a lovely idea.

  • AuroraRose41 Sending hugs your way. I think creating a team is a really nice idea.

TwoDimes that sounds like an awesome (and super sweet) plan for your rehearsal.

  • Thank you all ladies. I cried last night while FI held me and also cried, but take comfort in knowing that he isn't in pain anymore. Our VP will be keeping us updated on any funeral/wake arrangements, and if his family decides to do a public wake FI and I will most definitely attend.

I do think my first meeting tomorrow morning will be a difficult one, as this coworker was always at this meeting and everyone there knew him well.

  • @AuroraRose41 Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm so glad your coworker is no longer in pain, but pancreatic cancer is just terrible. I think it would be a great idea to set up a team in your coworker's memory. That's a very sweet way to honor him.

    I was away yesterday so...

Re: morning chatters - I can't deal with this. When my mom and I worked together we would drive to work together. She insisted on chattering the whole. damn. way. EVERY DAY. Even though I made it abundantly clear that I was not participating in the chat. I flat out told her several times that I didn't want to talk in the morning. Eventually I was working multiple jobs and couldn't drive with her anymore...I was not that sad about it. But she still does this if we're driving together somewhere.

@southernpeach89 - Yay getting to see baby peach! I hope it goes well!

@CocoBellaF - Take care of yourself, yes? Please?

@TwoDimes - I have all the votes for Minted. We got out STDs and invitations from them, and I've loved everything about them. The proofs and printing are pretty quick, their customer service has always been fantastic, and the fact that they'll print your addresses on the envelopes is so awesome. Yes, their designs are more expensive than some other sites, but from all of my dealings with them I've found it to be totally worth it. I'd rather pay a bit more for a great design and great service. ETA: The best discount I saw on Minted was 25% on Cyber Monday, otherwise it tends to just be 10 or 15. If you're trying to cut costs maybe try to double up on how you're using other enclosures? Like print hotel information and directions on the back of the reception card to avoid ordering another card? Or add info on the back of the actual invitation? They'll charge you for it, but it's way cheaper than ordering multiple small enclosures.

@GoldenPenguin - I totally forgot to number our reply cards until we had sealed about half of the invitations and I was so pissed at myself! But YAY sending invites! Ours went in the mail on Tuesday! This just got a whole lot more real lol

@AuroraRose41 - I'm so sorry, I remember you posted about him when he was diagnosed. Take comfort knowing that he isn't in pain or suffering. I hope you and your FI and your other co-workers are doing alright. Lots of hugs.
