Cosplay Vote?

I know how we feel about asking for votes to pay for weddings, photos, etc.

But how do you feel about voting for people who made their own cosplay costume and are now in a Cosplay competition? I have a friend whose husband made a Steampunk Bender costume. After wearing it to his local Dragoncon and meeting the voice of Bender he is now in an international competition to end up going to a con in Canada and be a judge. I'd love to get the word out and get him more votes, but will only do so if you lovely ladies are okay with it.

So for now just let me know yay or nay. If the majority are yay, then I'll post the link. If nay, then I'll respect it and go hide in a corner. :)

Why did I post this in Ettiquette? Could this please be moved to Chit Chat?

No this shouldn't be moved anywhere. Asking for votes for anything is against the TOS. Do not promote this via boards, walls or PMs.

  • Basically it goes like this:

    OK:
"Hey, my friend did this cool thing! Have you ever done anything like that?"
    "Post"
    "Post"
"Oh cool! Oh if you want to check out the blog with all the stuff then here is the link! My friend is _!"

    NOT OK:
"My friend/someone I know/I did this thing. Give me stuff/money/votes."
  • I have no idea what cosplay is or who bender is, but I know that advertising voting competitions, no matter what it is, is not allowed here.

I know this will be removed soon (probably), but in addition to the TOS thing, I hate this sort of thing as a rule.  I don't vote for people just because people tell me to.  If you were allowed to post the link, I might click and browse, but I'm voting for the one I think is best which may or may not be your friend.  If I think there are others that are better, I'm voting for them.  So doing that sort of thing, can backfire on you.

This, exactly. I'll happily vote for whatever contests, but I don't know you or your friend and I have no real interest in voting for him just because you said so.
  • Won't be posting the link then.
