Help! I need a dress (Polyvore thread spinoff)

I'm attending a friend's wedding in a few weeks and I have no idea where to find a cute dress. I usually wear pants to work and jeans on the weekend so I don't own many dresses (that aren't casual maxi dresses). Where do you girls usually shop for a nice dress?

Depending on your size Macy's and JC Penny actually have nice dresses.  If you need more specialty sizes I'm not sure.

The girls here turned me onto modcloth.com. When I'm not online shopping, I'm at Macy's or Nordstrom.

I'm about a 14 so not quite into plus sizes, but I definitely can't wear anything too form fitting either.

I love Dillard's for dresses. Antonio Melani is my favorite.

I have found great dresses at Macy's, Ann Taylor, White House Black Market and The Limited

I love Ross for dresses. You can usually find something dressy for 50 bucks and under. 

I'd also give your local department store a try.

@blabla89 We do have Belk stores in Texas but not anywhere near me. Maybe I could purchase something online though.

@Maggie0829 The wedding is at 6:30pm. The bride listed a dress code on the wedding website "semi formal or vintage" *eyeroll* But I know she's really into rustic decor so I'm thinking it will lean more casual.

Honestly I'm open to any color. I tend to wear more blues, blacks, and darker pinks usually.

JCPenney has some really cute dresses this season.  I bought this blue dress there to wear to my friend's wedding in May.

I also suggest modcloth! That's where I have gotten my fancier dresses. I've also had really good luck with Francesca's once. But most of the time, they have more casual dresses.  I like MagicInk suggestions but I found some pretty things too.

I love eshaki.com, they can customize the dresses to suit your style and comfort level too.  I love their stuff.  It's a little expensive, since they custom make things just for you, but so worth it!

have you tried rent the runway!?  Next wedding I go to, I definitely plan on using that site.  Unless of course you want a dress you can wear again.

I'm a 12 or 14 and wear dresses almost every day. I suggest Calvin Klein and connected appeal brands if buying online. I love dress shopping at Dillard's and bealls, of course we have neither locally

I use them too - most of the dress I buy for work are from them, since they get cut to fit your measurements, height, etc. You can also modify the necklines to suit your taste.

I have been doing most of my shopping from Land's End. They have a good website and an amazing return policy. They also have a plus section so you can usually find what you need. I wore one of their ponte dresses on Saturday and got a lot of compliments. Oh, and they're in stores at Macy's. I usually can't shop in stores very well, but a few times I have tried stuff on just to confirm the size I need. Or make sure I like it in person.
