NWR - Summer is Coming :(

Just a little bit of self pity that I needed to vent about.. Summer is coming, it used to be my favorite time of year. I love the sun and getting outside and being WARM..but now it's a bitter/sweet time of year. Because we have had such good weather my man is heading out of state for the week for work, this means we are only about a month away from him being gone until November.. I am happy the weather is getting really nice but it could have held off a little longer!!! Enjoying the sunshine but can't we get a dang deep freeze and hold off for one more month!?

Now I have Wyclef Jean stuck in my head.
  • I live in Phoenix, AZ and am dreading summer also.  I love fall, winter, and spring, but I'm not ready for scorching 110+ degree temperatures yet. But, I guess that's the price I pay for not having snow or freezing cold in the winter.

  • Honestly, summer has never been my favorite. I like it better now since I live up in the mountains. So I can go tubing and walking. I prefer rivers to oceans. But I don't want summer to come too! That means V will be leaving for grad school and we will start being long distance. That's going to last at least 2-3 years. Boo grad schools. We hope that I get into Kansas so we will only be four hours away. So I know that feeling.

Sorry to hear you are facing the same thing! If it makes you feel any better this will be our 7th summer doing this and we're going strong! Congrats on the grad school acceptance.. very exciting for you two!

  • I feel the same way. I wore a suit jacket to work today and I'm sweating my butt off. If I have to be sweating, I'd much rather do it on the beach with a margarita in hand, thanksverymuch.

  • I am not ready for summer.  It was 95 here yesterday.  No, I say! No!

I didn't even get to wear a scarf this winter. =(

  • I'm looking forward to April/the wedding/honeymoon - but not May - FI leaves for 5 weeks for school in another state so I'll be stuck at home with the teenagers while he's gone.  Plus since he's gone right up until when we need to leave for our new home in KY, we won't have time to look for a house until we get there.  Hotel life, yay us.

That does make me feel better! We are getting webcams for each other as graduation gifts, so at least we will be able to skype. Thanks, I'm very proud of V. I still have to apply but it looks like I will most likely get in. I have a good GPA, I did very well on the written and verbal sections of the GRE. I have museum experience, and good letters of reference.

I think it's awesome that you have been able to do seven summers of long distance. How far away is he going to be? I can't remember if you said this or not but it sounds like he works in the industry (energy). V and I have friends and peers who work in that type of field. If he does, I understand and don't envy the daily grind of that workload!

  • @buttercup1958 our first two summers apart he was still farming and only a 2hr drive from me where I was going to school so not too bad.. now he goes about a 13hr drive from home so it's not easy to get out to see him like when I was in school. He works in construction management and works in Williston ND where he lives in a trailer which is why I am not going to be heading out there with him.. love the guy but those are some close quarters for me!

  • @lovemesomemonster Oh ok! A lot of our friends have worked for construction sites, they seem happy with it. I agree with you, that's why I'm heading towards academia. I'm not made for hard labbor haha

  • I'm not looking forward to summer, either. Apparently I've moved into house centipede territory so once it warms up I'll be obsessively spraying the doors/trouble areas pretty much weekly and watching out for those fast, multi-legged demons...

    I laughed really hard.
I feel like this is all of the Twin Cities right now; just collectively holding our breaths and laughing at transplants who are like "Spring is here!!!"
Me, too. When this meme came out last year I think I spent an hour just re-reading it over and over and giggling like a maniac. It's so true. Not too long ago we had a freak snow storm on Mother's Day.

Fingers crossed that we get it light this year...with the exception of a quick cold snap to kill off the black flies.

  • I am so looking forward to summer.  We've had an incredibly mild winter here in Alaska, and I love Alaska and am pretty sad about the lack of snow in many parts of the state, but I'm super excited for hiking and camping and kayaking (H and I are getting kayaks this year, YAY!) and biking and all sorts of fun summer things!
