Pink Gold Black White Wedding -- Groomsmen

I have decided to go with a pink and gold wedding theme . . with touches of black and white. (I have included a reference/inspiration photo). I chose these colors because my ring is rose gold . . and I just thought it was beautiful!

Anyway, my problem is I don't know what I should have the groomsmen wear. My partner would like to wear a bowtie -- and I was thinking maybe suspenders?
But I need help! What color pants/shirts/suspenders/bow tie? I don't want it to be too much or to clash! And I want my partner to look different than the groomsmen (not in the exact outfit.)

I would also like them to be able to wear converse shoes perhaps.

I'm not very familiar with men's fashion, obviously!

Re: Pink Gold Black White Wedding -- Groomsmen

  • What does your fiance want to wear besides the bow tie? What colors?

What about classic black suits with white shirts, pink ties, and pink pocket squares? Or if you're not doing full suits, black pants, white shirt, pink tie, black suspenders.

I've seen lots of photos where the groom wears a bow tie and the groomsmen all wear long ties, and it looks really great.

This is not something that needs over-thinking. Just keep it simple and it will be great :)

  • Those colors are really pretty!

Suspenders are meant to be worn with a tux. The reason is because men's tuxes don't have belt loops, so to keep the pants up, suspenders take the place of a belt. With regular suits, there are belt loops, so men wear belts and suspenders aren't necessary. Wearing both is unnecessary and redundant.

That said, suspenders are also always worn with a jacket since tuxes are never just pants and a shirt. I understand that photos of hipster and "vintage" weddings on Pinterest don't fall in line with that, but you asked about actual men's fashion, so that's the reasoning behind it and why it's weird to see a guy in suit pants with a belt, suspenders, no jacket, and a bow tie.

    Anyway...

If your wedding is formal and after 6pm (personally, I give no fucks about the 6pm rule, but some do), I would have the guys in black tuxes. Your DH could do a white bow tie and the GMs could do pink bow ties.

If your wedding is informal, I would have the guys in black suits (jacket optional, no suspenders). Your DH can still wear a bow tie - white if he wants or any other color. And the GMs could wear bow ties or regular ties in any color. Here are a bunch of pink necktie options.

  • Okay. I'm lazy today, so these are not color specific.

So. A lot of the decision making here will be determined by how formal your wedding is. The first image is more formal then the 4th image, etc. Talk to your FI and see how he wants to dress and feels comfortable. My H decided on his and his groomsmens attire (The last picture) FWIW, if you're worried about something looking dated, I'd stick to a simple suit and bow tie combo. The suspenders, vests only style will probably fall out of fashion in the next 5-10 years.
