Post wedding - What did you do with your wedding stuff?

Re: Post wedding - What did you do with your wedding stuff?

  • All of our paper products were recycled, basically, except for one or two of each for the scrapbook.

Crayons and colouring books from the kids room were donated to the church, as well as all my leftover cardstock from crafting.

My shoes hit the garbage (I had glittered them, and the glitter was coming off by the end of the night), my veil went back to my mom, and my dress has yet to have anything done with it.  ALTHOUGH!!  We're going home to visit my family in a couple of weeks, so my sister and I are going to put our dresses on and take pictures :)

Our centerpieces were books and photo frames with quotes in them.  People were welcome to take any of it home with them, which was really fun - we had people walking out of our reception with armfuls of books.  Any books that were leftover after being picked through were donated to the senior's home.  People also took the quotes home, so any that were leftover are going in the scrapbook, also.  The frames were distributed to the mothers to reuse.

Flower girl baskets and card box were thrown out.

  • I'm planning my wedding to avoid as much leftover stuff as possible because I dread this!

I had a bunch of fake grape leaves that were used in the arch, a bunch of ribbon from pew bows, a bunch of candles, purple and clear glass pebbles, two cake toppers, a guest book and fancy pen, the ring bearer pillow and flower girl basket, a bunch of bird seed still in little baggies, a bunch of bubbles, and a knife set for cutting the cake.  Other than that, I actually don't have that much.  We didn't do escort cards or a lot of stuff that some weddings have.  The cut glass bowls we used as part of the centerpieces were borrowed from my aunt.

Of the stuff we did have, I kept the grape leaves for a year and a half, but then when we moved just under a year ago, I knew I'd never use them and I threw them away. The candles I still have a bunch. They were all white pillar candles with purple ribbon wrapped around them.  Some of them still have the ribbon around them, but the Christmas before last, I pulled the ribbon off and glued red and gold and some blue rhinestones in different patterns on them to give them a Christmasy theme.  I'm still burning a bunch of those.
I think I threw away the bubbles in the last move, but I may still have the birdseed in hopes of using it for a bird feeder sometime.

The toppers and FG and RB stuff is in a box. I use the knife set every once in awhile (my mom gave it to us and it is engraved with our names and wedding date.)  Most of the ribbon I threw away in the last move. I used some of the glass pebbles on a shelf with a picture frame as decor. A bunch of it, H threw in a vase the last time he bought me flowers to help hold them in place.  I still plan to use them as decor or maybe to make a mosaic.
  • You're reminding me of stuff I already got rid of- the cake toppers were given to a friend's kid (they were cheap and she loves tea parties), we didn't do toppers or ring pillows, we got a little engraved wood box for the rings that I keep jewelry in, and we got rid of the flowers pretty quickly.

I currently have all of the stuff to get rid of on a Facebook group. Unless anyone here is in the south 'burbs of Chicago and wants to pick it up!

We don't have tons of leftovers --- a lot of our stuff was rented, borrowed, or something we already owned.

I am keeping my jewelry, veil, cake stand, and shoes. I am hoping to sell the dress, the centerpiece bowls & accessories (floral tape, foam, etc.).
