Groupon Frenzy

So I'm about to go broke on Groupon with all their deals (got some adorable boots for riding the motorcycle) and just noticed a wedding groupon area.

Would you ever buy a wedding deal from Groupon? I noticed their nice deals on wedding DJs, like $795 for a $1500 package, groom suits, flowers, rings, etc. Would you buy a Groupon for your wedding services?

Re: Groupon Frenzy

  • Hmm what an interesting idea.  I think I might do some research and maybe talk to the company before buying the groupon, but it's certainly something I'd seriously consider.

  • I would. I didn't (yet), but I would. In fact, I was going to go with one of the photobooth vendors from Groupon, but our DJ offered us a photobooth for a great deal.

Now that you mentioned this, though, I'm going on Groupon now. I need a deal on the personal bouquets.

  • We actually tried to. I called a wedding photographer when I saw a great deal on what looked like great work. He couldn't tell me his availability for our wedding date before the deadline to buy. We might have considered him if he could guarantee our date.

We did buy a discount with a limo company but it was a %age discount. We decided to skip the limo altogether (the rates were stupid high) so we used that for a night out downtown. I think we spent $30.

  • The deals I'm finding look really good, just wondering what the conditions are or anything. Thinking about calling some of the vendors to see what the groupon fully details in their own words.

I bought a Jamaica all-inclusive deal for June this summer with FI, and everything has been smooth sailing with calling and planning the traveling, so maybe Groupon deals are actually great for packages like this...still hesitant on buying a full 6-hour DJ package, though. But man, that would be amazing to save so much.

We were considering buying an all-inclusive resort package for our honeymoon through Groupon, but then we found a killer deal on VRBO. But I didn't know Groupon had a wedding section, I will have to check that out!

  • I would after doing research making sure it's legit.

  • While I love Groupon, I would not trust it for services on my wedding day, like a photographer. You don't want to be subject to the vendor who gets a better deal for your wedding day and cancels you. Could happen and I'm sure it does happen. Not the day I want to take a chance.
  • As long as it is a vendor that I researched before buying I would go for it.
  • I don't see it being any different than finding a bargain at a wedding fair or something like that. I did try to get a MUA through it but they were booked solid.

Some deals aren't as good as they seem though. There's a company that does boudoir photos around here, says the deal is for $150 instead of $500 or something like that... but you get to pick one photo out of the shoot. Still ridiculous IMO and the pics weren't exactly amazing.

  • I would if their reviews elsewhere were good.  However, I sometimes wonder how good the deals are.  Like they can basically place whatever "value" they want on something.  So maybe they say "$750 for $1500 in DJ services!" but maybe they always charge $750.  And, as already mentioned, people who run groupons tend to get booked up really really fast.  I know when I buy any hair services I call literally the minute I buy the groupon to book my appointment otherwise it'll be a long wait to get one.

  • My wedding was off groupon, IT was a £5500 wedding for £2500, they let me see the cost break down and it could have easily cot the 5500 maybe we was lucky with our package but it's a very popular venue so we fell right with it.
