Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

Weirdest Wedding Gift You Received.....

I am just wondering if any of you girls received anything that you would consider to be a bit weird as a wedding gift....

Before my wedding one of DH aunts contacted me (she has her own dental practice) and asks if I would like some teeth whitening strips. I said "sure" and she sent them my way. When I called her to let her know I received the samples that the company had sent her, her response was "thats your wedding present"

One of his cousins had posted a comment on facebook that she had just made a dessert and I asked her for the recipe. She insisted it was a family recipe and it was top secret but agreed to send it to me bc I was soon to be family. She then emails it to me and says its our wedding present.

  • How odd.  The strangest thing I've gotten so far is a garter (I wasn't planning on wearing one) but it was part of a basket of gifts so I was able to just ignore it in the TY note and thank them for other items.

  • We got a pair of Chinese vases with fake pearls strung around the necks.

I also got a baking dish, the size of a bread pan, but only about an inch thick. It's very small and I don't know what to use it for!!

As for your weird ones, and TY cards, just say, thanks so much for the strips, they will make my teeth look on awesome on wedding day and the recipe, just TY very much for the recipe, can't wait to try it out! Thank you for trusting me with such a special family tradition.

It's called BSing it honey! Get used to it :)

  • A FUGLY lamp - clear glass bowl around the base of the lamp that has a bunch of dried flowers/weeds in it.  The aunt/uncle that gave it to us own a very high end furniture store.  We're guessing it is something they had in the store that wouldn't sell. Fugly, the dried stuff broke off, dust from the weeds then stuck to the sides of the glass. We got rid of it - "DARN!, we felt just terrible when it fell off the table and broke" (actually since it was a working, but ugly, lamp we donated it).

  • wow. those are some seriously cheap gifts.....

    <em>Dear Mr and Dr Dentist,

We wanted to thank you for sending us whitening strips.  This helps both DH and I to be more conscious of our teeth :)  We missed you at the wedding, but know that you both are in our hearts :)

    Thanks again!

    Mr and Mrs DH.

  • My husband's great aunt (who is 80) sent us a toaster and lingerie for me. the combination of the two, and who they were from, probably made it our weirdest wedding gift.

  • Oh lord, the things we got.

    My friend is... crafty.

She took a terracotta flowerpot, turned it upside down, painted an L on it (new last name!), and glued a second hand glass light cover to the bottom while stringing a lightbulb into it. I honestly had no idea what to do with it.

She also took a terracotta pot, painted it red, put a fishbowl on the bottom, and filled it with candy. A gumball 'macine', I suppose.

I thought they were both, well, tacky and ugly. I was 'fortunate' that the gumball thing broke on the way home, and the other one was left in a box until we moved. I think it was thrown away.

  • OK, at my family shower one of my aunts actually gave me some KY product. Who knows what we will get at the wedding, but the thank you card for this is still a stumper. "Dear Aunt C and Uncle Tom, Thanks for the gift, you pervs. Love M & J" Tongue out

  • My ex-boyfriend (yes you read that right) got me a biography of Pope John Paul (along with a Target gift card).  I loved the sentiment actually even though I'm not the biggest Catholic.  He attached a nice card and explained he got the book from his dad who was connected to the publication somehow and he wished he could afford a nicer gift.  Still weird though as he's Jewish.

  • My grandpa gave us an old coin as a wedding gift. The weird part is, he told us we aren't allowed to sell it because it's a family heirloom, but neither my dad or aunt or uncle have ever seen or even heard of the thing.
