Which vendors usually receive tips?

Hi all!

We were wondering who traditionally receive tips for the day of and things like that? We are having our reception in a hotel ballroom and while a 22% service charge is tacked on, I thought that we were to tip the folks a bit more.

We were also thinking the following should get tips:  the hair stylist, the make up artist, the DJ, the florist (?), photographer (?), the limo/transportation guy, and maybe an extra donation to the church?

I put question marks next to the ones I didn't know really for sure about.

Generally, a "service charge" is not a tip.  it is the cost of the actual hourly wage of the employees.  if a tip is included it is generally listed as "gratuity."  this can vary by contract though, so i'd read through your contract and possibly confirm with your contact person there to make sure if it's not clear.

 

The general rule is that if the person working your wedding owns the business, tips are not necessary, because they are taking home 100% of the proceeds. if the person is an employee, they should be tipped.

@delujm0 thank you!  And I think I wasn't 100% clear about the 22% service charge -- you're absolutely right.
