MOB dress

Does anyone know of a safe website to purchase MOB dresses? Or an area dress shop that carries "simple' MOB dresses?

Re: MOB dress

  • Literally any store that sells dresses sells MOB dresses.

This.  She doesn't have to wear a dress specifically labeled as a "MOB dress" or get it from a wedding shop, like David's.  She just needs to wear any dress (or outfit if she doesn't like dresses) she likes that fits her body and her budget.  That can be purchased anywhere.
  • Any formal dress can work as a MOB dress.   My mom doesn't want one of those MOB dresses with the little jacket; that's just not her style.   She's currently looking for a long, black evening dress.   She's been look around at Macy's and Nordstorms.

My mom bought her dress on Macy's website.

This. A MOB dress is simply a dress worn by a MOB. There's nothing else special about it. She could wear a jean skirt and it would be a MOB jean skirt.

The "safest" websites to order from are the online versions of brick and mortar stores - Nordstrom, Macy's, JC Penney, Lord and Taylor, Kohls, etc.

We can't recommend an "area" dress shop because we don't know where you are. This is an international board.

  • I am the mother of the bride and have been ordering dresses from Saks and Nordstroms. They have free shipping and can be returned to stores (so no return shipping). I think I've ordered 8 so far hopefully this next shipment will have the right one. Stores have a very limited selection so on line is her best bet especially if she can return them to the stores - don't know if she has access to them. I totally did not want a typical MOB dress. They look too dowdy.

MOG here.  I found tons of things at Nordstrom's online-I wasn;t charged for return shipping.   I found that I loved all the Tadashi Shoji dresses.  Don't know if you want long or short.

I chose this one in the green. fit's perfectly, well made, hits me mid knee.  She has some fabulous long dresses that would be perfect too.

My mom too bought from Nordstrom online. She was able to order a few options at no risk and send back what she didn't want.

I also bought a dress from the Tadashi Shoji line for my daughter's wedding. There are several looks that are not dowdy or matronly. I found many styles that suited me. OP, depending on your purchases there, alterations can be free or minimally charged as well.
  • My mom got her dress at Alfred Angelo. She REALLY wanted a purple dress. She didn't want to wear black, or a pastel. And she wore navy blue to my brother's wedding so she didn't want to wear blue to my wedding. (For the record, I was fine with her wearing any color she wanted).

She also had some requirements that are a bit tricky--she's overweight and hates showing her upper arms so anything sleeveless was out, and she needed a high neckline (i.e. like a crew neck) because she'd had a double mastectomy and needs to hide the prosthetics. While there are lots of high-neck dresses out there, they're almost always sleeveless!

Alfred Angelo ended up being perfect becuase she could order any size, and any color, and they happened to have a short-sleeved high-necked dress! (I swear, it was like a miracle when we found it.)

Ditto. Both my mom and FI's mom purchased their dresses from Macy's.
