Embarrassing brain fart

So I received my veil yesterday, I ordered it from Etsy. I got a cathedral length veil with lace detailing on the bottom edge. I tried it on and loved it, but then I noticed that it looked like the lace was applied on the wrong side of the veil, since it was facing downwards. I started to freak out a bit, and the veil is so damn long that it was a bit hard to tell,so I decided to have FI help me. I figured, it's not the dress, so it's no biggie to me if he sees it. He helped me spread the veil out, and we noticed that yes, the lace was facing the wrong way. He asked if I was putting it on correctly, and I told him that I was and showed him the direction that the comb was supposed to go on.

At this point I'm thinking, great, it would be my luck to get a defective veil. I decided to message the seller, but I thought sending pictures would be best. At this point, FI went down to get the laundry so I didn't have him to help me with the pictures, and I was too impatient to wait for him. The bed was undressed, so I took this huge panda comforter we have and put it on the bed. I then took a Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal, and put the veil on him to help show how the veil fit incorrectly. I sent the Etsy seller a message indicating that I loved my veil, but I thought there was an issue with how the lace was applied, and sent her a few pictures. She wrote back that she couldn't really tell if I had put it on correctly based on my pictures, but sent me a picture of how the lace should look over the veil, and explained step by step how it should be placed.

Guys. I was totally putting the veil on incorrectly the entire time. I felt like a total idiot after sending the vendor pictures of Winnie the Pooh wearing my veil. Ugh! She was really nice and helpful throughout everything, and my veil looks even better now that it is properly placed, so I'm really relieved and happy with my veil! Still pretty embarrassed though, haha. I uploaded the pic I sent the Etsy vendor.

Did you guys have any embarrassing wedding related snafus?

  • I've definitely done things like that before. I have my mom's veil, which was originally on a cap. When I removed the cap I forgot to write down which way the veil is supposed to go, so now I have to figure it out.

  • Now this makes me think I'm not putting my veil on correctly.  How did she say you are supposed to put it on?

She sent me the pic below. She explained that the veil has to be over the comb, and then you place the comb with the curve side towards the back of your head. I wasn't placing it with the lace going over the comb, the lace was behind the comb. I thought it looked a tad off, but I've never really worn veils (at bridal shops they have placed it on for me, and I never liked the veils they chose so I didn't pay much attention), so I thought it was normal.

blabla89 - it's so weird how a simple veil is can be so complicated to wear!

I have definitely been wearing mine the wrong way then!  I'm glad I came across this, because I definitely wouldn't have noticed.  Mine is a fingertip length with lace around the edge.

  • This is totally something I would have done.
  • LOL I would have done the same too! I didn't have a veil so I have no idea how they go.

I bought my niece's birthday present on Etsy and for some reason in my mind I thought I ordered it on Jan 5th. So it arrived on March 3rd and I wrote a review on his page saying I love the product but was annoyed that it took 8 weeks to get. The seller sent me a message and was like dude, you ordered this on Feb 12th- it was only 3 weeks. I was like ooopsy and revised my review!

  • Veils are totally confusing! The comb on mine curves a lot, so there was no way to put the comb in upside down or anything, but I didn't get that the veils needs to flip up over the comb and back, so it was super confusing. I was standing there flipping it all around trying to figure it out, and finally the bridal consultant gave me a tutorial lol. I felt like an idiot.

  • I love that you used Winnie the Pooh as a model.

I remember your veil!!!! I LOVE your veil. I actually wanted to get one really similar from this same vendor, but she only had them in white. Since my dress is "alabaster" she said it might be too white for my dress. I decided to get the one I did since it is Ivory and a closer match.

Yea FI even thought, well maybe the lace is supposed to fold over at the bottom? So we tried folding it up and over. Sigh. Who knew veils were such complicated things?!

  • The first time I went to my venue to meet with the wedding coordinator, there were all these huge canvas' on the wall from various weddings that have been held there. One was of favors and they were Jordan almonds which I hate so I said to my mom "Oh, look, more Jordan almonds. I don't understand why people like them so much! They're gross!" and the coordinator looked at me and said "That picture is actually from my wedding".

    Awkward.

I've mentioned this on one of these boards before, but we were in an elevator at our hotel on our way to a wedding, and an old lady in the elevator noticed we were dressed up and carrying gifts so she started asking me about it. She was excited to hear that we were going to a wedding and wanted to know what the gift was so I told her. I mentioned [no idea why] that I felt bad that it wasn't from the registry, but the bride had only registered for super expensive things, which I thought was so ridiculous. The old lady agreed, and we snarked on the bride a bit more.

Got to the reception and found out that the old lady was the bride's grandmother, who then shot me nasty looks the entire night.

  • When I had one of my fittings, the lady was trying to test cups in my dress. She was trying to get me to position the cup under my boobs right and I was too busy staring at myself to pay attention so she just reached and moved my boobs into the right position. Not really embarrassing but it definitely startled me because I wasn't expecting it.
