Morning, ladies!

I'm sorry to start this off on a sad note but I was watching the news this morning and they were talking about the (latest) cop who shot and killed a man in South Carolina. They played the video of the entire situation as it unfolded and I stood in my bedroom, horrified, and burst into tears. I'm an emotional person in general but I've never had such a strong reaction to something like this. I was just reading up on the whole situation and I'm just really sad and angry.  

Another WTF story in the news that I wanted to talk about is the guy that was just rescued after being lost for 66 days at sea. I've talked about this with some of the ladies here but does anyone else find this entire story fishy (ha, see what I did there)? 66 days in the middle of the ocean with barely any food or water and you look like a completely normal person afterwards? Right. 

Anyone else have any WTF things they'd like to talk about today?

Ohh ME ME ME!!! I wanted to put this in the Monday thread but stupid work kept me away both Monday and Tuesday!

My cousin and his FI sent email save the dates on Monday. They are getting married in San Antonio in October. My cousin and I are 8 days apart and we basically grew up like twins. He asked BF to be a GM while we were in Disney, and BF gladly accepted. 

So on their save the date they attached the wedding website. In the bridal party section where it has BF's name his description is as follows: "Close family friend for many years, and also Casey's (Grooms cousins) boyfriend. He is a beer connoisseur and the sexiest man that (groom) knows." Now I realize that this is something small and could even be nit picky.. but shouldn't he be my BF BEFORE being a close family friend? Also everyone else was listed with their accomplishments and where they work/go to school/whatever. Not a huge deal.

It goes on to say that they are having a welcome dinner in downtown San Antonio on Friday night. This will go into Saturday. Then on Saturday they are having a welcome BBQ at their house. Much of our family hasn't seen their house because we are all from up north. However, we are to BYOB and meat for the grill. But they will coordinate meat for the "out of towners". I would say a healthy guess is that 85% of us will be from OOT. 

It then goes on to say that during cocktail hour there will be swing dance lessons. There are also three YouTube videos for us to watch and learn before we go. I get that she is really into swing, and he does it for her, but I would think they would do it together not make everyone get involved. But hey what do I know.

I'm already dreading this thing and it's not until October. Sorry this turned into a huge rant I just had to get it out.

This week has been fine so far but things have just been bothering me easily lately...mainly stupid things people are doing and saying.

One of them being the girl that kicked me out of her bridal party. She is very indecisive when it comes to having an opinion on things. She will tell people that she believes in God and then when she is with her FI she will say she doesn't believe in God because he doesn't....it's just really awkward and confusing. She also does with topics about raising children. She doesn't have children but she puts some very controversial opinions out there without having any sensitivity towards the other side. I don't know, it just rubs me the wrong way.

DH's stepsister is just WTF all the time. I'll just say that.

I am feeling exceptionally ranty today, about things that are just making me shake my head.

I haven't had my my e-ring since Monday night because FI took it to the jeweler yesterday to talk about getting my band made. And the jeweler said it would be WAY more than we were anticipating! So I'm pissed about that and we're going to have to look somewhere else. And he still has my e-ring because FI and I needed to talk about it last night.

FI and I also got quotes for the painting and flooring that we want to get done at the house yesterday. We've been talking to people who do a lot of work for his family's company. And both of them are basically taking us to the cleaners; I actually said "what the fuck is this?" several times. The flooring estimate was beyond ridiculous. FI is super pissed because their company throws a ton of work to these guys; we aren't expecting them to do the work for nothing, but what they quoted us is just insane. FI needs to talk to both of them again but right now I don't know if we can actually get ANY of the work done. I actually cried last night because I was so pissed off and disappointed and now I feel like we're going to be stuck with the stuff we don't like for ages.

I recognize that these are both major first-world problems. I'm just pissed off and do not understand where people are pulling these crazy numbers from. It feels like everything that we THOUGHT we had planned is now just a big NOPE.

I don't have much WTF today, except that I've had my breakfast shake and banana chips and I'm still hungry.  So, WTF.

Oh, and severe weather tonight.  WTF.

I am waiting on the official offer for my new job!  They are giving me the full salary and then a sign-on bonus that covers the difference between my current salary+performance raise and what they can give me.  Hopefully I'll get the official notice this week or by the end of the day Monday and I can put in my 2 weeks!!  YAY!!!

@Swazzle H and I were SO upset last night over the cop story. But in some ways, I'm glad someone caught an actual video of what a truly horrible person the cop was, rather than it all be second hand stories about what happened and nobody taking the issue seriously. It's so awful....

And I am totally with you on the guy who got "lost" at sea. I'm pretty sure I read a story the other day where the Navy (or was it Airforce?) guys who picked him up were shocked at his condition. They said his skin was pale and he didn't even appear to have any issues with touching land for the first time in over two months, he wasn't wobbly, he wasn't weak, he didn't even look as if he had lost weight. The whole story is weird....

@lmcooper86 I think it's time to get some competitive offers from other companies. If the quote was THAT off base, then there must be more reasonable (and trustworthy) companies out there. That's ridiculous.

@southernpeach89 CRAZY EYES MCGEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, your ex-friend/BM really pisses me off. I hope I run in to her sometime so I can tell her how I really feel about how shitty of a person she is.

@caseface5 I guess his description doesn't seem all that off-base to me. They want to show his relation to the groom first as a close friend, before mentioning his other relationships. I get that. The rest though? The swing dancing and BYOmeat? Yeah, no. I like swing dancing, but I don't want to have to have a bunch of dances memorized.

WTF, Pottery Barn. 

I ordered my couch + ottoman 7 weeks ago. The couch has obviously arrived and is lovely. The ottoman was a "quick ship" order which means it was supposed to arrive within 1-3 weeks. The estimated delivery day was set as today, April 8th, shortly after I placed the order. That's obviously longer than 3 weeks but fine, whatever. I just logged in to see if there's a tracking number and the date now says May 15th. That's over 12 weeks for delivery! 

I called and the guy was basically like, "yea sorry about that, something must have happened with the fabric at the warehouse." For what I had to pay between their stupid delivery fees and surcharges, this fucking thing should have been delivered a month ago. RAWR.

My big WTF right now is with my family. Every single holiday my parents buy the food, clean their house and prepare the food. I have 4 siblings in town and both my brothers are married and their wives join us at these holidays. We are all in our 30's amd 40's. Every effing holiday is the same, parents do all the work before (I am usually the only child who calls and asks what to bring and when I am told nothing, I still bring something) then all my siblings and their spouses eat and the clean up is left for me, my sister and mom. Not even the wives pitch in. I have gone right to the face of my one brother and said "Start picking up, princess!" He responds with "I am supervising." I go to the other brother and say "Hey, mom ends up cleaning and doing all the work, it's not fair, get your @ss moving!" So he calls for his kids to come help I said "No, we want this done right so that means US kids should be doing this." He ignored me. If there weren't kids of all ages around, I would let loose on them. It pisses me off!

My mom gets so angry after holidays and threatens to not have them anymore, which I encourage her to do but she never does because she is terribly passive. So, I e-mailed her Monday with links to fancy places to take her on Mother's Day and told her the other kids can certainly join us if they pay their own way. Of course, she hasn't responded back. So I might just e-mail the ingrates and tell them that due to their lack of help with events and holidays, I will not be joining them anymore. But on the other hand, I still only go because I don't want my mom to bear all the work.

Grrr.....

@Labro - I couldn't agree more about the video. Hopefully there's justice this time around unlike with Eric Garner's death in NY (I firmly believe that the cop was completely unjustified in this situation and I'm still very unsure about my feelings on the Michael Brown situation).

@swazzle - I'm with you on both of those. I don't know how that police officer will be able to talk his way out of that. He shot a man in the back!!! And the 'lost at sea' guy... no way he was on a boat by himself with a broken collarbone for 66 days. RE: Pottery Barn - tell them you want your shipping refunded. You wouldn't have ordered it if you knew it was going to take 3 months, etc, etc. I would definitely rawr!

@caseface5 - Meh, I really wouldn't get too upset about the write-up. If your cousin new your BF BEFORE he was your BF, then the wording makes sense to me.

@southernpeach89 - Did you do anything juicy to get kicked out?

@cocobellaf - congrats on the new job!

My WTF is to my scale. I have gained 7 lbs from my low (right around marathon time). I have decided to steer clear of Coke and chocolate for the next four weeks (Kentucky Derby is on 5/2)... as well as cutting back on the number of sandwiches I eat. I'm already sad.

@Swazzle This time around, I don't see how they can get away from justice. The cop claimed he tried to attack him and grab his taser, but obviously in the video, the guy is running away and the cop shot 8 TIMES at him. He definitely doesn't have a leg to stand on this case. I don't know where I'm at with Michael Brown either. In all of these cases, it definitely seems like the cops have a shot first/think later mentality that ends up escalating the situation.

@cu97tiger - Thank you!!  I kept in mind to ask like a man (instead of like a woman) when they asked me what amount of sign-on bonus I would be comfortable with...  and I got the full amount that I asked for!  I almost said, "whatever you can do will work," but instead I asked for $XXXX in order to alleviate the difference in salary.  A few minutes later, I got the OK.  Yay!!

We've been slowly working on the downstairs vs the upstairs since we're really the only ones who go upstairs but I really want to have a nice bedroom and I'm getting sick of the shitty paint job in there. H wants to mostly finish the rest of what we've started before we start working in the BR which I suppose makes sense but it sucks

@TwoDimes - Oh no! Poor Indy (and you!!!)! I hope she is feeling better today.

@cu97tiger That's the thing, we had been dating for years before I introduced them to each other. My cousin was in the Air Force so he wasn't around when we first started dating. It's not a huge issue and I'm not upset over it, I just took it to be rude. 

@swazzle WTF Pottery Barn! I totally watched the Friends episode where Phoebe hates Pottery Barn last night so this is funny to me!

@cu97tiger - She kicked me out because my baby is due a month before her wedding and she thinks that I will impose a risk to her wedding because of that. Granted I have no idea what will happen between now and the birth but if for some reason I'm not able to be a bridesmaid because of recovery or an emergency situation, I don't think it was her place to make the decision that I wouldn't be able to participate.

@lmcooper86 - I have received one quote to replace our flooring and it was an OMGWTF moment, too.  I'm going to get some more quotes.  Hopefully we both find something more affordable!  We wanted to go with the wood laminate instead of carpet, but now I'm reallllllly leaning towards the ceramic tile that looks like wood.

My WTF is I'm going on vacation tomorrow and my day is JAM FREAKING PACKED with meetings.  Why does everyone wait to schedule a meeting with me until the day before I go on vacation.  Seriously, one guy has had to make a decision about a document and has had it for weeks.  He now has questions about it...why?!?  

I hope my WTF isn't my skin tone tonight...I'm getting a spray tan.  Here is hoping I don't turn into an oompa loompa.  Regardless, its better than pasty white I guess.

@caseface5 - i can see the groom listing his relationship with BF before your relationship because its his wedding party. however, agree the BYOM is silly.

@southernpeach89 - i have a few friends on FB that love to post very strong opinions about things they dont really know about (ie "i will never do XYZ with my kids" when they are not parents themselves). i think it makes them look ridiculous because i guarantee a lot of people say stuff like that before they have kids but end up changing their tune once they are parents.....so im guessing any parents who are reading these statuses are prob just rolling their eyes.

@swazzle - WTF pottery barn is right! thats infuriating! also i hate how they waited until today to update it. if there was delay in the process they probably knew about it before today, right? i bought a couch on june 15 last year, was told 6-8 weeks for delivery (july 27 - august 10). well then i got a call at some point that it wouldnt be delivered until mid sept. i was pissed but couldnt do anything about it. THEN i get a call first week of sept that it wouldnt be delivered until DECEMBER. i was livid and called to complain....only for them to say oops that message wasnt meant for you. so yeah, i finally got my couch 14 weeks after ordering.

@loves2dream - how frustrating! your mom needs to speak up and your siblings/SILs need to pitch in!!

my WTF moment came yesterday.....BF and i have been trying to find new shows to watch together. his friend mentioned that miniseries on HBO about Robert Durst (i think its called The Jinx?). i said that sounded interesting. i come home last night and BF had started it without me! wtf?????

lmcooper86 have you looked into getting the flooring yourself and doing it yourselves?  We've saved a ton by doing everything on our own.  We got our laminate from Lumber liquidators (not the stuff the may be getting recalled thankfully), but I've also seen awesome deals at Costco.

Nothing exciting is going on here.  I just have major nausea this morning and it really really sucks, that is my main WTF.

  I didn't sleep well and feel really tired too.  So I'm ready for 5pm today I just want to get home. I'm ready for this week to be over though.  Yay for tax refund hit yesterday, no plans for it other than savings for now.  It just nice to have it, although it is a bit easier to justify spending a few thousand for a king mattress.

@labro - Yeah. FI's dad (who owns and runs the company) was shocked too, which isn't good. FI's going to ask around a few other people they know as well. And I love that gif. It never fails to make me laugh!

@cu97tiger - Nothing crazy customized, I just want the setting for the stones in my band to match the setting used on my e-ring...which is why we went to the same guy. We're going to shop around, I'm sure we can get something elsewhere for a way better price, but I'm just annoyed that now there's something else on our to-do list.

@TwoDimes - I actually thought I hadn't heard FI correctly. The combined cost would be $10,000. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! WTF! If we had 10 grand lying around it would be going into our mortgage. Maddening is totally correct.

@CocoBellaF - FSIL used a wood tile in one of her bathrooms and it looks awesome. We actually looked at some last weekend, if you don't mind it being cooler on your feet then it might be a great option!

@minskat30 - Fucking floors. BOOOOO! And I hope you get your vacation...

@speakeasy14 - FI could install the new flooring on the main level (which is probably what will happen now) but the entire upstairs needs to be sanded and re-stained. We can't do that ourselves as easily. What really pisses me off is that the upstairs is the part that I want done more....so of course it's going to cost the most!

My overall WTF is actually a WHY the fuck: Why the fuck don't I have a money tree??? Please note that I would totally share the money that grew on my money tree.

Forgot my wtf --- so I decided to try the Wen conditioning shampoo.  My hormones have been crazy which has caused me to have an oily scalp. I got the tea tree one, thinking it would be a good solution.  I also, had my sister cut off about 5 inches last night so I wanted to show off my new hair cut.  Well, it looks like I haven't washed my hair in days.  So instead of showing off my new hair cut my hair is up.

@caseface5 - Do you think your cousin meant it as a dig? If not, then he is just happy to be friends with your BF and you should take it as an awesome sign that he is such an accepted part of your family.

@southernpeach89 - How rude of her! Because obviously the biggest reason to have a BM is so that they can be standing next to you in a dress that you pick and that looks perfect on them, NOT that you are honoring your friendship with them regardless of life circumstances.

@jenjen047 - The Jinx is awesome... wtf to your BF. Also... you should watch Orphan Black. It's awesome.

@minskat30 - Yes! I am wearing a dress I already had, but am buying a new, Derby-appropriate hat. I can't wait! Have a great time on vacation.
