HELP!! WEDDING DRESS!

I bought my dream dress from davids bridal but we've had things come up (moving and having a kid) so we moved our wedding date to May this year. I decided to try the dress on and it doesn't fit. I know I should have done it sooner but I didn't think much of it. I have an alterations appt with Davids Bridal this Saturday but I'm scared they won't be able to do anything or its going to cost me a fortune. This is the dress now. Please someone just tell me if you think they can fix it and it be under $200 possibly. I'm just freaking out as its getting closer to my wedding day. Thank you everyone.

Re: HELP!! WEDDING DRESS!

  • How close do the two sides come together?  I ask because they are kind of puffing out in the picture so it is hard to tell.

  • Have them make it into a corset back. MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU THE PANEL INSERT! If you live in the California Bay Area I have an excellent seamstress in Pleasanton CA that can literally do anything! He made a dress into a corset back for $160 and the quality is 200 times better than anything I've seen from David's Bridal.

@doeydo I can't get them close at all. My chest size has grown two cup sizes I was a D and now I'm a triple D. My maid of honor thinks thats the main problem. But I don't know.
  • @thegowoman I had read on their site about being able to do a corset back. Do you think they will still be able to keep the button back though. That was one thing that was important to my grandma when we went and got it. Unfortunately I live in Florida :( I wish I lived in CA that price is amazing!

Well, usually a corset back doesn't have buttons.  Buttons are used for closing the dress, and a corset back is tied shut with a ribbon.

You could ask about something like this.

  • First things first: If there are any other options in your area besides David's, take it somewhere else. Look for an independent seamstress. David's isn't necessarily the least expensive, either.

Second, most dresses have seam allowance to be let out a couple inches on either side. Don't panic, just get it to a seamstress to get a professional opinion.

  • I agree about going to a professional seamstress. They can work wonders. I definitely would NOT rely on David's Bridal. I wouldn't think it would cost more than $200 either, but ask them up front -- that's the time to address all of your concerns. Personally, I would also do it sooner than later so that the seamstress is not rushed and you are not stressed.
