Game of Thrones

Am I wrong to feel slightly disappointed about the GOT premiere last night? I gues I was hoping for something epic. Instead they just flitted around trying to make sure we got caught up with every character. Did I miss something important?

Re: Game of Thrones

  • I get the disappointment but I also feel like that's par for the course. I feel like there is usually a lot of building up throughout the season to one or two more major events, with last season being kind of the exception with several episodes having big moments.

They didn't show Arya or Bran last night. I love Arya and want to see her training to be an assassin, and Bran's story kind of just got to the good part when the last season ended.

Apparently, Bran isn't going to be in this season at all. Also, the first 4 episodes were leaked online and my co-worker watched next weeks episode. He says it's much better.

  • Has anyone read the books? I'm weird about reading books before watching movies/TV shows.. I have all of them and am STRUGGLING to get into the first one! WHEN DOES IT HOOK YOU!?

  • I was kind of grateful for the character catch-up... god knows they wait forever-and-a-day between seasons, and I'm lucky if I can remember what I had for breakfast this morning :)

I was disappointed that the episode was less than an hour though- I wanted more.  MOARRRRR!

    Looking forward to next week.

And PS- those dragons are not cute anymore!  I miss when they were little, lol

Not really ever, at least for me. I powered through the first one, decided I hated GRRM (not just his books but him as a writer and possibly as a person), and ditched them. Too many darlings get killed for my liking.

  • I've read them all so far! They are addicting. I struggled to get into the first book too but fight through it. It gets SO much better! Although there is truth to the killing off of all the favorite people.

  • DH stopped reading after book 3 or so, half way through.  He found them all a struggle, though we both enjoy the show

I was thinking the same thing!  They were so adorable when they were little.

Oh I love GoT. I was a little bummed that not a whole lot happened, but I enjoyed some of the character catch-up.

The whole Mance scene was super interesting and I'm excited to see what happens to Jon next week. I also really like the dragon scenes. I still think they're cute but I love all types of dragons in al their many stages of growth.

    ETA: that was not English

  • I think the episode did a good job reminding us what happened last season. With so many characters and places they need to do check-ins like that. I know DH and I had trouble remembering what happened last season.

I started reading the books after watching the first season. Since watching the first season made me care about the characters I was hooked on the books to see what happened to them. I kind of hate GRRM for killing off so many people, but my favourite 4 are still alive at the end of the 5th book.

  • I've read the books. I was pleased with the episode but it was a little slow.

Bran won't be in this season at all. They caught up to the books on his story so we won't see him until season 6.

  • Also apparently they are killing off someone still alive in the books this season. I'm nervous as some of my favourites are still going in the books but clearly no one is safe in the show as they've already changed a lot since they started.

I read somewhere that GRRM said there are 4 deaths this season, 2 expected based on the books and 2 that will surprise everyone.

  • The books are ten times better than the show IMO. I watch the show just for the beautiful visuals, but the books have 8 billion more things going on. If you watched the show up until now the first book is a little slow, because that's the only season where they really stuck to the plot pretty closely. But if you can slog through it it really starts getting interesting in the second, and especially the third.

However, the show is getting more interesting now just because they're deviating away from the books more and more, so I'm looking forward to it.

  • I love GOT and was happy with the first episode. Honestly I was nervous for it because I was afraid I would be lost since its been so long since the last episode. The fact it was slow helped me catch up and I can't wait for the next one!

I enjoyed it more when I was catching up, watching episodes back to back ... this once a week thing is going to kill me!

Boo re: Bran. Again, his story finally got interesting. I am really curious about the power of those special trees and the magic they're connected to.

  • I've read the books, I found book 4 to be really hard to get through. So many new characters and plot lines that they are apparently just skipping in the TV show. So now I wonder why I suffered through Quentyn Martell and Tyrion's long-ass sea journey if we are just skipping all that shit?!

I get the impression from this week's episode that we are jumping forward in Sansa's storyline, which I am looking forward to. Just taken me away from Robin plleeeeeaaaase.
