Wedding Desserts

I am trying to come up with some creative dessert ideas . My FI & I do not like cake. We are going to have a small one so we can cut into it and the guests who do like cake can eat it. But I want something different. I am the first of my friends to get engaged so I have not been to a lot of weddings to get ideas. I need some creative suggestions..... GO!

Re: Wedding Desserts

  • I've seen pie, cheesecake, sundae bars, muffins, a dainty table with naniamo bars, tarts and squares, and just a candy bar.
  • Ice cream sundae bar?

  • Donuts.

OH gah I'd eat so many.

  • We're actually doing a few cakes of different flavors (sweet potato, chocolate, coconut) and then macaroons.

  • Smore's, pie, donuts, ice cream bar (with someone to serve), milk and cookies bar, macarons, really anything would work!
  • The baker we went to regularly does assorted mini desserts for large events. We didn't even have to pick them out; the baker knows exactly what to do. So we'll have things like:
Chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cheesecake, cobbler, cake balls, lemon cream pie, etc all in mini form so guests can just take one thing or try a bunch of things.

I recommend talking to a baker first to see if they have things like this that they routinely do before you stress yourself out too much thinking about this. (Because for weeks I was googling different desserts and trying to make lists of potential desserts that would provide a good variety and I was really over-thinking it. Then the baker said "oh we do things like this all the time and here's what we do and here are the specific types we usually include." Done.)

I would legit be just hanging out at your dessert table.

I'm already planning to skip dinner and just hoard all the chocolate mousse

  • Cannoli?   Cannoli cake?   I seriously wonder why DH and I didn't get one as our wedding cake other than having to cut through the crunchy layers.   OMG NOM!
  • Our caterer does the mini dessert thing. I want to say it'll be a chocolate mousse, a cheesecake parfait, mini pies, and one more that I'm blanking on.

We MIGHT get some big pies from a baker to supplement, but haven't decided yet.

  • We are doing a cupcake tower :)

  • We went to the grocery store- it is way cheaper that way if you can swing it.

We got a few kinds of mini cupcakes, petit fours and a small cake just so we could cut it. The biggest hit of our table was chocolate chip cookies. We have a family friend who makes them and she gave us a bunch as a gift (her insistence, we didn't ask). They went SO FAST. Now, about 8 months later, my friends are STILL lamenting the fact that they didn't take more cookies!

  • Were doing wedding cake with 3 flavors in hopes to appease the majority of people. Were also having a 400 piece mini dessert table like Novellas as well as a candy bar.

Anything sweet is a winner, doesn't have to be cake, but some kind of pastry would be perfect. Donut tower, hello!

  • Check with your caterer or the local grocery store. We'll be supplementing our cake with key lime tarts. My mom's wedding was at an Italian restaurant so in addition to cake she had an assortment of Italian pastries.

    We did cheesecake!

Before we decided, a variety of pies was also up for consideration.

  • We did a croquembouch (french wedding cake made of cream puffs!). We used this as our wedding cake as neither of us are big cake fans. Instead of cutting the cake we pulled off a cream puff and fed each other. It was a big hit (and so delicious!)

Unfortunately I did struggle finding someone to make it as I guess it can be quite challenging, and ended up having an Italian bakery make it. It was still amazing, we did vanilla and marscapone puffs covered in white chocolate ganache. Ours came out a little fatter then this picture.

  • We hired a chocolatier to create a truffle bar. It was fabulous and people still talk about it almost 2 years later.

We also had a s'more station as a late night snack.

  • I went to a wedding last year that served ice cream. They had servers who would put the flavors you want into a cup. I do not remember if they had toppings.
  • If you want to go more casual, I had a friend who wanted cookies for her wedding instead of cake. I made them all and they were a big hit because they're so portable. We bought little bags for them too so people could take them home as favours as well.

I made about 350 large cookies for a wedding of about 100 guests and they were all gone by the end. Six flavours.

  • I am so hungry for junk food now. I'm glad I didn't read this thread before I went to the store. The bakery department was tempting enough.

  • Ice cream sundae bars are awesome. We considered one, until our venue told us it'd be $8 a person + a $75 attendant fee. So...we're sticking with just cake.

This reminds me of this graph though. My coworker had it on her door. She had pie at her wedding :)

  • We're having pecan tartlets, key lime pie bites, banana pudding shooters, chocolate pot de creme from the caterer, and wedding cupcakes from Publix.

  • My BFF did pies with ice cream, but they were cold.  Warm those puppies up!!

We did cake, but for dessert we also had chocolate haupia pie and some fried banana dessert cos we were in Hawaii

  • We are doing a dessert "smorgasboard".  It ended up being way cheaper than a cake large enough to feed 200.  We have a small 2 tier cutting cake (one tier is the flavor I like, the other is one FI will like), one sheet cake, and then cookies, brownies, macaroons, mini pecan pies, mini cupcakes, and.... chocolate covered bacon on a stick.

  • We're having a variety of pies, and we'll be cutting into an apple pie because we're from apple country. I'd also like to have to-go boxes so people can bring extra slices home, but we'll see how many pies we need to feed 150 people and what kinds, etc.
