Tech-savvy Knotties - HALP!

I can't google on my iPhone 6 and I am going to lose my mind (ultimate first world problem).

Every time I try to google something in Chrome I get an error page that says "Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.google.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards)." Google seems to be working fine on Safari, but I much prefer Chrome.

I googled the problem on my desktop, and all of the answers seem to be fixes for the desktop browser, not the mobile app. The only mobile solution I could find was trying "incognito" mode, but I still got the same error message.

I have also tried the tried-and-true first fixes of turning my phone off and turning it back on again, and uninstalling and re-installing the app. Any other ideas?

  • Sadly I can't help you with the Chrome fix, but until you can get that fixed (hoping someone else has advice), you can download either the Google app, or use Safari. Just like Chrome, you can type directly in Safari's URL bar and it will do a Google search.
  • Huh. A friend of mine was just asking about this, but on his laptop, for iTunes. I bet dollars to donuts it's a known Chrome/Apple compatability issue but I'm not sure how you'd go about fixing it, sorry.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the latest software update. I just updated maybe on Friday?

  • Is there an "advanced" that pops on the screen?

See there on the bottom left? Does that appear? If so tap it, it'll explain why you can't get in but then it will also say something about "proceed to blah blah this is not safe" and you can tap taht to proceed.

Also, are you typing http before google.com? Try typing that there was something about how we need the http...or something.

Yes, that is the error message I'm getting, but no option to "proceed."

When I click on "advanced" it just says "www.google.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. etc. etc." and "You cannot visit www.google.com right now because the website sent scrambled credentials that Chrome cannot process. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later."

But it's been two days and not a single Google search has worked.

Typing "http" or "https" before "www.google.com" it doesn't help either.

  • My android starting doing this, I had to download the latest system update and it started working again. I would check again for phone updates. GL!

  • charcoal, pinch down your screen size, maybe the proceed option is there but your screen is too magnified?

If not, go to your apps on the phone, delete the app, turn the phone off then reinstall the app.

    Best of luck!
  • Make sure you have the most current IOS update ran (this is in settings) and then make sure the app itself is completely up to date (in the app store). Then do a hard reboot, hold the home key and the power button at the same time until the apple appears then let go, this is the equivilent of popping the battery.

If it still doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the app.
