Engagement Announcement Wording

I would like to put an engagement announcement in my hometown newspaper, but am not sure how to word it. A few years ago, my mom passed away. About a year ago, my dad remarried. Thoughts?

Re: Engagement Announcement Wording

  • I suppose you could say something like the daughter of DAD and Stepmom and the late MOM.

Someone else may have better advice than I do though. I didn't do an engagement announcement.

  • My condolences regarding your mother.

Are you very close with your stepmom? If she hasn't played much of a role in your life (which I assume she has not, since your dad remarried a year ago and your mother passed away a few years ago), then I would leave stepmom out of the announcement.

"a1013, daughter of Father LastName and the late Mom LastName of HometownCity, and a1013's Fiance of FI Parents of HometownCity, were engaged to be married on 04/21/2015."

Mr. and Mrs. John Bridesparents announce the engagement of his daughter, Bride to Mr. Groom's Full Name.  The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs Groomsparents of Anytown, State.  The bride is a graduate of School, and is employed by Firm.  The groom is a graduate of School, and works for Firm.  A spring wedding is planned.

Your engagement announcement is not a family tree.  People who know your family already know about your mother's passing.  The engagement announcement is a formal way of spreading the news that you are engaged to be married.  It is not the place to memorialize your late mother.  At your ceremony, you can put a memorial note in your wedding program.
