ClassPass

New Yorkers, especially- does anyone use ClassPass? I signed up for it and it is awesome!

You pay a monthly fee ($99 in NYC) and have unlimited use of tons of fitness centers all over the city- from Barre studios to Spinning and strength training. I did Pure Barre tonight and have a class at Flywheel tomorrow.

I need to get my butt in gear and I do not do well with just going to the gym- I love organized classes but they are so freaking expensive I can't really justify it. @lacqueredlover- Peleton Chelsea is on there :)

Re: ClassPass

  • I just looked, and none of my local places are on it, but there are a ton of Los Angeles places.
  • I remember looking into this and the drawback for me was that you can't go to the same studio more than a couple times a month, right?  This would be cool, but I like to have a routine.

  • Dudes I'm OBSESSED with Classpass!!! As in my friends are sick of listening to me talking about it! Meanwhile I got three of them to join :) ! I'm on the UES and I"m all over Classpass! I don't mind the max of three classes per month, since there are so many great options! My favorites are: Flywheel/Flybarre, Exhale, Crank, EVF360, Atomic fitness, Ballet Academy East. Let me know if you want to come to any of these :)

  • I'm doing a flywheel class on Thursday at 5.30 pm (UES location)

  • @JCBride2015- you can go to the same place 3 times in one month. I don't mind that restriction because I do like variety. Although I used to go to Body Pump like 2 or 3 times a week :)

@mj8215- I did Pure Barre tonight and Flywheel tomorrow! My friend is also obsessed with Exhale. I will try it next week!

What about places like Physique57 that have multiple locations in the ClassPass-- can you go three times at each location or three times overall?

  • @JCbride2015 - Sadly, 3 times overall. Still, TOTALLY worth it for me.
The main point for me is, I'd never go to a gym if I'm not "scheduled" for it. I just don't have the willpower (gym vs couch --> couch wins) plus I just don't enjoy the gym. Whereas here, you sign up through their really well designed app, its right there on your calendar, you can filter by neighborhood or within an X radius from your current location, it just makes it really easy for you. And you get to try things you wouldn't normally have done - I've done ballet and kickboxing for example. I'm doing something almost every day - maybe 5 or 6 days out of 7. This is pretty good and way more exercise that what I used to do before I joined. And my work schedule is crazy, and still I can always fit stuff in because of the huge range of classes they have.

This is me, too. I know myself better than to think I am going to go to the gym and get a halfway decent workout. The pass is $99/month. The class I did last night is $25 and I think Flywheel is about $30. So I am over halfway to getting my moneys worth. In 2 days.

can't imagine paying $25-30 for one class! The only classes I've heard of around here that are similar prices are reformer pilates or whatever it is called, I think those are about $20 per class though I've never gone.

Yep.  I was using Equinox but with my injury I can't do all of their classes.  I just went back to my ultimate fitness love, Physique57, which is $37 per class without any package discount.  It comes down to $30 if you buy enough classes at once, or the cheapest you can get it down to is $325 per month for unlimited classes.  When I was on the unlimited I was literally taking 30 classes per month to try to squeeze every last penny out of that membership.

I am a firm believer in spending money to take care of myself, but this is insane. The unlimited passes at Pure Barre are about 300 a month and I just can't stomach it.

That is why I don't mind the classpass restriction. It is worth it to save that much but to just have to explore different classes in the process. You can only do Pure Barre 3 times, but there are dozens of Barre classes.

  • @sarahufl haha no NYC for me, moderate-priced Midwest here.  I'm complaining that I don't want to pay more for the Les Mills classes I like ($42 month unlimited) since I already get fitness classes at LA Fitness as part of my membership so I can't justify paying for 2 separate places.
  • I've had some friends have bad experiences so I never tried it. Besides, spin is the only workout I like I just got a 30 pack at Peloton haha

Ok, I thought it was just my boney ass, but it's good to know that other peoples' down-under sides hurt too.
