What is your favorite kitchen/home/bath gadget? (+ F&F Macy's PSA)

We got a Macy's reward card from our registry and the Friends & Family sale is coming up. I was wondering what everyone's favorite odd kitchen gadget/bathroom or home item is. Like for example, my friend loves her pineapple corer/slicer and my cousin loves her pairing knife and swears I need a good one (planning on it).

So pretty much, help me spend my money, and the Macy's Friends & Family code is "FRIEND" and goes from Sunday-May 4 for all those who want to shop too.

  • Mushroom Brush and Olive Oil Spritzer. lol. Pretty random.

We use our olive oil spritzer on a regular basis, so much less mess and way easier to evenly coat things for cooking.

Our mushroom brush looks like a mushroom. Because why not? It makes me laugh everytime I clean mushrooms.

  • My dad got us a sandwich press about a year ago and we get some pretty good use out of it. I think it's the Cuisinart Griddler. I also have an iced tea maker that I got as a going-away present for my last job. I love iced tea so it's really handy for me.

  • I registered for a cracker tray. FI's mom has one and I've always wanted one. I know it's kind of a silly thing to have, but I hate when crackers get all wonky on a tray.

We have a Macy's gift card right now so maybe I need to check out some stuff to buy too!

  • Also, if you're into cooking (or want to be) and you don't already have a good set of knives, it makes a world of different. And it's a lot safer.

  • I also love our Griddler because the plates are removable for easy cleaning.  I also like our salt and pepper shakers (XO?) because they have a pour spout on the side so you can use larger quantities without taking the top off.

I also have Martha Stewart nesting melamine mixing bowls that are really nice.

  • Random gadget? Definitely my strawberry corer! It take the tops off the strawberries perfectly.

Not so random? I am obsessed with the Kitchenaid mixer that my grandma got me for my bridal shower! I use it all the time.

  • Cuisinart Griddler is the best hands down. The one gadget I use the most though is my garment steamer.

  • I love my Miyabi chef's knife.  I just bought their pairing knife, but I haven't used it yet.  I was super excited about it though.

I also am a tea fanatic, so the Breville variable temperature electric kettle is on my dream list.

*Sigh* It's beautiful.  And $250.  It's going to be a few years before I have it.

  • Our toast/convection oven.  We use it all the time.  Seriously, we have lived here for over a year and have turned on the regular oven twice.  Normally I'm cooking for one and do not need the bigger oven.  Can cook DH's 12" pizzas too.

    Good set of knives

DH would say his Soda Stream

We have the Griddler too.  It's great for indoor grilling and when you need a flat top.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I want a garment steamer so bad! We've been talking about getting one for a while but just haven't pulled the trigger.

  • pineapple corer thingie is awesome!  Mine was less than $10 I think

    Electric wine opener

  • I just got this Avocado Shark and it's amazing. One end slices, the you line up with the pit and it slides out (like an exacto knife) to squeeze the pit and easily lift it out. Then the oher side scoops it out in one scoop, and the slice side cuts it. Yea it's changed my life lol imageimage

Wow! I love all these ideas. Thanks knotties!

I already have a Wusthof chefs knife that I use practically 4 times a week and a garlic press (which I agree, is amazing), that griddler looks DIVINE (or at least the elite one I'm seeing from WS) and I know I use too much EVOO so that spritzer is a good idea. Definitely getting that.

  • I also really like my zester.

Our pyrex set is nice for parties because the bowls are fine as serving dishes and when the party is over, slap a lid on it and throw it in the fridge. They help eliminate dishes and time from clean up.

Ooh yeah I got a microplane zester and it's awesome. Great for chocolate shavings too, or parmesan cheese when I only need a little and don't feel like filling the rotary grater (lol as if there's ever a need for only a little cheese, who am I kidding).

  • My current favorite thing is my collapsible colander. So much easier to clean than my regular colander, and takes up so much less space.

  • I (fifth? sixth)) the Cuisinart Griddler!
I was most excited to register for the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew, where you can brew a pot or use K-cups on the other side, but I haven't gotten it yet.

@luckya23  We have the FlexBrew! Got a sweet deal on it at Kohls! We love it! It's great for the weekends for when we have time and will drink enough to justify making a pot, and on rushed mornings to use K-cups.

Yes! I have them in all sizes. Love them.

I'd have to say our favorite is our waffle iron. We made waffles every weekend for at least 2 months when we first got it. You can never have too many waffles.

Yes! Stainless measuring cups/spoons are a must! There is no going back to plastic once you have these.

I do a lot of baking and already have a good set but I registered for another because washing them in the middle of cooking is a pain.
  • Oh, and this!!

  • My Nepresso milk steamer. I make my own chai concentrate, use the milk steamer and voila...cheap chai lattes, with a lot less sugar.

I use my Oster steamer every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. I make oatmeal every morning, and then use it to steam veggies or rice for dinner all the time. Rice is so much better than on the stovetop.

Really random, but a wooden fork is literally the most used tool in our kitchen. Smaller than the fork in salad tongs-we use it to sautee basically everything. They are really hard to find, but seriously the best thing ever.

  • I love my Kitchenaid, Garlic Press, and GOOD kitchen knives along with a good wooden cutting board.  The one other thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is Odd sized measuring cups (my set has 2/3c, 3/4c, 1 1/2c, 2c) - I found mine at Williams and Sonoma not sure if Macy's has them or not but they are awesome because they are the measures used most frequently when I cook.

  • I have too many gadgets. My favorites are:

-Garlic press. I grew up with them and can't live without them.
-Clothing steamer. I have gone through several over the years and they are amazing.
-Spiralizer. It seems silly but we use it for zucchini noodles and other spiral cut veggies on a regular basis.
-Microplane. Another thing that I grew up with and can't live without.
-Tongs. I have several pairs of silicon-tipped tongs. They have to be the self-locking kind though.
-Good knives. I'm not sure that I'd consider them gadgets but I swear by my Victrinox knives.

    So I
REALLY want one of these...but am worried they don't really work. How do you prepare the cut veggies afterwards? Tell me more :)
