How much food do you throw away?

Re: How much food do you throw away?

  • I don't think I've ever thrown out condiments. My H threw out my mustard that expired n 2008 when I moved 2 years ago. Jerk, it tasted fine to me.

I never do either. Sometimes we take them to a tailgate and they never make it home, but otherwise they stay in there forever.

I'm fully convinced expiration dates are a conspiracy to get you buy more mustard. It's only like a dollar, they don't make very much money if you buy one every 6 years. ;)

lawsuits.  It's all about lawsuits.   I the company doesn't tell you when it will expire someone will eat something 20 years old and then sue the company.

    Sad but true.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I sound just like @lolo883. DH eat his exact 6 yogurts per week, his exact box of saltine crackers, etc. I am just like her where I'll be shopping and be like "oooh I'm gunna make berry smoothies this week!" then end up throwing out all the strawberries a week later. But it's normally small, inexpensive stuff that we toss. I would never toss like chicken breasts or steak. We only buy enough of that to get through for the week and if for some crazy reason we know we won't get to it- we freeze it for the following week. Our fridge is honestly pretty bare since we only eat meat and pasta so we never have the case of "not knowing what's back there" and not eating it.
