    Here's my pro camping tip:

    Get a hotel.

I've realized that I hate camping.
    Rv's are fun.

We slept in a real queen size bed.  Had a shower (too small), toilet, 3 burner stove, oven, microwave, dining table, plug in power (but had a generator if we needed), heat/ac and even cable if we wanted.

I would be fine in a tent.  DH, not so much.  Rv camping is more his style.

The one we use is 28 feet.  Ours was one of the smaller ones.   There were some that looked like full blown houses on wheels.
I'll stay in cabins that have bathrooms. I hate feeling grungy when I go to sleep.

DH and I camp every weekend that we can from April - October (we live in PA).

I second PPs advice to not care that you're gonna get dirty, and to bring some kind of sleeping pad. I have a thin air sleeping pad similar to this: http://www.rei.com/product/878928/eureka-dualis-st-sleeping-pad-regular-2014-closeout#tab-specs

The one I have packs up light for backpacking and it's made an enormous difference for my back; I have degenerative disc disease and a regular sleeping pad wasn't cutting it.

    Other advice:
    - Don't bother showering.
    - Make sure you have dry underwear.
    - Pack light.
    - Relax!
  • I'm all for the RV camping as some of you have said! It's so much easier to pack since it's always stocked so you just throw in your clothes and go! Unfortunately FI lives in our camp trailer for 7 months out of the year so the last thing he normally wants to do is then go camping in it. We do a yearly fishing trip in Shoup Idaho in November for steelhead and it's COLD (some years the high is around 20F or less).. no tent camping there. It's all dry camping so fill up the water tank and bring a generator and buddy heater. The boys will still go to the porta potty if they have to #2 it but F that! We bought a fully contained camp trailer for a reason, I will shit in the warm comforts of the trailer thank you very much! Always makes FI super happy because he has to clean out the tank because of me :)

    TL;DR

    Camping Advice: Don't.

  • We are pretty intense campers - we sleep in a pup tent in the wilderness, often with no bathroom... My hair is the absolute last thing on my mind.

Bring a hat to wear and just wet down any crazy spots. Wet wipes are great (and the special feminine hygiene wipes are really really nice when you can't shower for a few days).

The fun thing about camping is that everybody is just as dirty and greasy as you are. Nobody is going to even notice if your hair is messy. Plus, mosquitoes like you so much better when you're clean and smell yummy.
  • Here is some useful information, since I'm sure you will encounter wild animals:

  • When we camp, it is in the backcountry after hiking everything in with us. So we are probably a bit more out there compared to car camping.

Bring a change of socks, underwear, etc. Bring a warm hat to sleep in if you get cold! Have lots of water with you if it isn't readily available. Don't worry about hair or what you look like. My hair is normally a disaster when we go camping.

I use a sleeping pad under my sleeping bag for more comfort/get me off rocks or other painful things on the ground.

Bring a first aid kit. Just in case.

Have fun! I can't wait to go camping again. If you look up Garibaldi Lake, that is my favourite campsite to hike to out here. Makes the hard work getting there worth it :)
