So after my Thursday posts about the Teacher Appreciation madness, I thought some more and decided definitely no, not doing the cavalcade of presents, Teacher and Assistant each get a treat, a gift card, and a heartfelt note of thanks, period. Then at the bus stop this morning, the other moms were also WTF at the 5 day thing. One of them (who teaches middle school in our district) says it's nuts, it's only elementary that's doing a week-long gift list, and she's also doing a one-shot deal with her kid's teacher. Okay, cool.
I check FB at lunch, and the teachers at DD's school are all dressed up and doing a red carpet walk down the main hallway. Maybe it's the introvert in me, but my first thought was "If someone made me do this at my job, I would be so irritated." It's not enough that they show up crazy early and teach a bunch of little kids, but now they have to get
all glammed up like Phyllis Diller? Ugh.
Maybe they enjoyed it, IDK. Again, I love teachers. DD's in particular is absolutely wonderful. But this thing is already way out of control, and it's only Monday. Who knows what they'll be doing by Friday. And it seems to be the PTA inflicting it, the teachers don't seem to be driving it. Maybe we have one of those crazy PTA presidents you hear about. (I wouldn't know, not having been to any meetings.)
