Invite Wording Help

Hi everyone,

I could use some advice on wording! My parents are hosting - they are married and both have PhDs. I've read that if someone is a medical doctor, their title is written out as "Doctor" whereas PhDs are remain "Dr". Some sources also say that if two doctors are married, the man and woman's names are both written out (e.g. Doctors Jane and John Smith). So would this be "Drs. Jane and John Smith request the honor of your presence..."? Thanks!

    According to Crane...

"My father/mother has a Ph.D. Does he/she use “Doctor” on my wedding invitations?
Ph.D. is an academic title that is used only in academic settings. The use of “Doctor” on wedding invitations is reserved for medical doctors and ministers with advanced degrees."

ETA:  So in your case you would just list your parents as Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

  • They are Mr. and Mrs. John Bridesparents.  I know!  It's not fair, but it is proper.

  • This. My husband was a bit put out not to be Doctor on our daughter's invitation but he got over it!
