Ugh... Thank You Notes

Hey Ladies,

I have TERRIBLE handwriting so I wanted to do something printed, but ettiquette dictates that the notes be handwritten. But, I have a website that prints silver ink on a beatufil red cloth for thank you notes. AND they'll match my invitations. If I order them to be printed -in the fancy way-, are they still a "no-no"?

TIA

Re: Ugh... Thank You Notes

  • I think as long as you still write a little something inside, they will be fine. A lot of girls on my June board ordered their TY notes with a wedding pic on them and have just received them.

I would just make sure you break them up between you and your H or pace yourself and do x amount each day until you get them done within a week or so.
  • Check and see if your DH has good hand writing :)  Hand written is more thoughtful, than buying something again, to try to convey that message to a guest that put time and money into either coming to your wedding, or giving you a gift.

I had to write out all 300 thank yous... but compromising and have DH write some was a time saver :)

  • Yes, I think it's rude to order printed thank you cards.  Your guests took the time to buy you a gift, so you should take the time to write a thank you card.

Write slowly and carefully.  It will take you a little longer, but it will mean more in the end.
  • I answered this on another board, but I'll answer again.  If you are personaling every single card to the person and the gift then its a little better.  But still, to me it lacks something when its typed or printed.  Regardless of the quality of handwriting, its from you, and its from the heart.

Your description of what the cards will look like make me think that you feel the only way printed cards are poor etiquette is because they are ugly or don't match the wedding colors.  That has nothing to do with it.  They are poor etiquette because they aren't generalized.

I know there are many etiquette rules that are becoming outdated, but honestly, if I took my time to come to your shower and wedding and whatever else and bring you a gift, I like to think you took the time out to handwrite me a TY note.

H's handwriting is nothing great at all, but you can be damn sure I made him write some out.

  • I wrote mine too:-) Took 2 days to get them all done, but break it up. Don't try to do all at once! Hubby wanted to help, but I wanted to do them....lol
  • I know it is considered not proper - but I don't care if someone sends a printed thank you at all.  I am happy to get a thank you.
